Mik, S-bag's first voice and advocate of social justice, recognized the need to "take back" our community in 2011 after it became evident that this Management Company was not here for the betterment of the owners' enjoyable lifestyle. The birth of the sister Newsletter (to Mik's Resident Forum) i.e. NewsHound, was constructed to further awareness of many troubling events taking place in S-bag and was eventually subscribed to by over 150 owners. The September 2011 issue was focused on the firing of Lorenzo Parker--a bellwether event.
(Bellwether: A bellwether; one that leads or indicates trends.)
Here is that issue: Sept 2011 NewsHound "S-bag Under Seige"
Mik is gone--but not forgotten. His intellect, sense of social responsibility, energy and insights are carried on by other individual owners in many ways. Though it might seem that little has changed in 3 years at first glance, I believe that there have been many changes and, I hope that on the other side of this current ugliness in our community, that reason and kindness returns. But, in my reality, the situation has worsened, yet the collective response has become more broadly knowlegable and focused. There is MORE reason for hope and LESS reason for despair.
Could I ask for a moment of diversionary comment? I only found out what an NGO was in the last few weeks. An NGO is a Non-Governmental Agency. These types of organizations are flourishing and CRITICAL to the operation of smaller countries especially in the Mid East. They fill a vacuum left by ineffective government and serve the people left without resources either gutted by corrupt government or destroyed by civil war and unrest. I have also begun to understand the importance of NGO-influence on the larger society. The book another Guest mentioned--i.e. "Waging War", describes the subject of the book as an NGO. "Lightbulb moment" and a new concept (for me, at least). The Subject of the book is Transparency International, a global NGO. Here is the detail of the book and anyone interested can pick up a used copy cheap on amazon.com.
S-bag is a socio-political microcosm of what is going on in the larger society. Mik R was a one-man NGO in S-bag.
There is a book titled: "Waging WAR" that talks about citizens taking back their communities.

Waging War on Corruption: Inside the Movement Fighting the Abuse of Power
by Frank Vogl
Reviewer: José Ugaz
This is a fascinating and complete source book on corruption. The author, who has committed part of his life to the struggle against this human calamity, shares global stories with us about the impact of corruption; the origins of Transparency International -- the champion NGO in the anti-corruption fight; he names and shames corrupt leaders, highlights major cases; and tells us about courage. Even though fighting corruption is a huge cH allenge and seems like an impossible mission, Vogl presents an optimistic view of the future of what he describes as a "very long war" driven by the actions of many heroes around the world.
Frank Vogl describes the global rise of awareness of the devastating effects of corruption on millions of people around the world. Through the lens of fascinating human stories, he vividly illustrates the importance of individuals standing up against corruption and making the demand for transparency and accountability in politics and public life one of the key social cH allenges of our time.
