I accidentally fell over this article in the Ledger from 1980 while busy looking up something yesterday! I initially had a deja vue moment and thought someone had done a current article about the mess in SLR--and was shocked that this article was written back in 1980! I must say I was a bit demoralized that almost nothing has changed in SLR in 34 years. Only the names of the Director-Persecutors.
This is MUST reading for historians and is related to an ongoing and continuing attempt by BOD to enforce the nonsense rule on porches! This article was a cut 'n paste from a screenshot so a couple lines are messed up at the edges. Non-members can use saddleviewer with password 123abc to enlarge the thumbnail and/or download.
Here are some interesting excerpts and quotes from the article:

There's a Part II coming; I located the court cases and Orders where SLohA persecuted the owners. I'll post the outcomes of these cases as a followup.

"SLohA is taking four property owners to court over the screening-in of porches that extend beyond the ends of their recreational vehicles. Several residents claim they are being harassed by directors and security officers, who are selectively enforcing resort regulations. But, directors of the Property Owners Association say they are simply enforcing rules approved by property owners and that the complaints are coming from a few people who have nothing better to do than gripe."

Attorney Norman White, representing two of the residents, stated "The association, in my view, enforces the rules arbitrarily...and "the association has allowed some residents to screen in porches but has refused to Grnt permits to others. They should enforce the law for everybody, or nobody."

"The board is always making trouble for people" (quote from Member)

President Harden said that directors have tried three times to have the rule on porches changed. "Even the directors would like to see a lot of these rules changed" (quote from board member). Another board member said that in 1978, many other rules were changed "but residents rejected the proposal on porches."

Betty Powell, who has set up a clothesline under her back porch, said the directors have threatened to fire her husband, who is a security guard, if she doesn't remove it. "Under the law, you can't put a clothesline on a campsite" she said. "I put it under my porch roof." Since she refused to remove the line, she said the directors have given her problems in other says.
"People that used to be my friends won't even talk to me anymore" she said "They say I'm a troublemaker."
