PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE 06/24/2016
S-bag Prevails
When we arrived in the resort in order to testify against discrimination charges which had been filed by Ms’s Astn and Tmyk we had no idea that we would land in the midst of an armed fugitive lock-down.
First to the hearing. Fourteen residents and staff, not including the complainants and attorneys, gathered at the courthouse in Orlando. Only the individuals named in the complaint were allowed to stay in the hearing room for the full testimony. The rest of us were assigned to a waiting area until we were called. The hearing ran from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Several witnesses were not even required to testify so it was a long uneventful day until we began receiving calls about the police search back at S-bag.
When the hearing ended we were informed that the judge’s verdict would not be presented for 6 - 8 weeks. But our attorney assured us that we had presented a very strong defence.
When our car, which carried, my wife, Nunsee, Toneesha, Shn, Clf Jansen and myself, arrived back at S-bag, the police denied us entry as the whole scene was on lock-down. We drove on down to JB’s to get some food and wait it out. There we joined a dozen or so fellow Saddlebaggers who doing the same thing. About 8 o’clock some told us we could get back into the resort so we returned and, after some negotiating, our car was permitted to go as far as the office where we joined Chap, Bth and Pt Wood Rooff who were locked down there. The police had taken over the Board room and were using as their command centre. The group of spent the next 3 hours waiting for updates and expecting the situation to be resolved at any moment. Pt and Nunsee and I had resolved that we would be spending the night there while Bth, Shn and Chap were preparing to go home when the police emerged telling us that they had been pulled of the scene and gave us an escort to our cars before they left. Only Pt remained on duty although there were a couple of police cars still maintaining a presence in the park. We heard a police helicopter still hovering above as we settled in for the night. As I am writing this, at about noon on Friday, June 24th all is quiet and we wait in uncertainty.
The thing that I want to pass on, at this point, is just HOW AMAZING our staff was yesterday and last night. Toneesha and Shn had spent the day in Orlando answering to charges over there and were as indignant as any owner could have been in response to the claims that had been made. Bth, Shn and Chap refused to go home after being confined in the office for hours more while constantly responding to phone calls from anxious owners. Toneesha had to be persuade to return home to her family and Pt Wood Rooff took over his wife’s shift to keep watch through the night. These folks performed way above the call of duty last night as they do each and every day. Shn corrected herself a couple of times during the day after saying, “our resort” but no one was ever more entitled to use that description than our staff was last night. We are truly blessed to have employees who give what this group does to S-bag. They demonstrate a devotion to our resort which can not be purchased at any price and for any of us who have ever complained about their performance, yesterday was testament to their value as another of the many treasures that we enjoy here at S-bag. A HUGE THANKS!
