President’s Message 06/24/2016 .... Prevail Continued
When we awoke this morning, we, once again, heard the sound of a police helicopter overhead but all else seemed calm.
At about 8:00 a.m. I drove down toward the office and encountered two police patrol cars. One of the officers informed me that residents were being allowed to come and go from the resort but were being encouraged to stay inside and under cover as much as possible.
When I arrived at the office I was greeted by Shn, Bth, Kaarl Shrodr and Jhn Crmee. At that point the police had not yet given the all clear so the maintenance staff was sent home for the day as were Shn and Bth. The pool and other amenities remained closed and Chap took charge of the office for the rest of the day.
By 1:00 p.m. we received a phone notice that the police had lifted all restrictions as it was believed that the fugitive had stolen another vehicle from outside the resort and had left the area. That threat had passed.
My wife and I were not yet part of the S-bag community back in 2004 and 2005 when the hurricanes and flood came but we have heard inspirational stories about how everyone pitched in together to help clear the devastation, to aid one another and to join in the restoration of the resort. Those were dark days which threatened the very survival of S-bag but are now remembered with pride at the way adversity unified the residents and allowed them to recover from forces by which they had been assaulted.
Not all assaults come from nature and this latest episode was the result of the random, crazed activity of one desperate individual. These threats came from outside the resort but over recent years we have been assailed by storms from within. Ironically this fugitive struck on the same day as a group of us were over in Orlando rebuffing an attack from within. While we all cherish the calm between the storms S-bag will undoubtedly face more adversity in the future. The past has taught us that our unity is strengthened by tribulation and based upon our history and our response to yesterday’s events, our resort is in very good shape. It is easy to concede to fear and fallibility but in these moments we need only reflect upon the spirit of unity that has allowed S-bag to prevail in the past and be assured that this spirit will allow our resort to face and overcome whatever assaults that the future may bring.
By the end of today we were hearing other stories of concern and generosity which residents have shown over the course of this latest ordeal. I am sure more will follow in the days to come.

(I very much hope that my postings here are not somehow seen as a way promote myself or my point of view. In this case I believe people were seeking the facts surrounding this traumatic event. Those I have presented. I make no apology for my attempt to encourage and inspire others by the positive forces that I see in S-bag)
