Managers' Report :
Hello and good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend!
This Wednesday July 20th there will be a Board of Directors meeting at the Clubhouse at 9am. The Agenda items include a revitalization update, travel compensation, sewer flow meters, backup generator, use of resort facilities, and water usage. Don't forget to sign up if you wish to speak to any of the agenda items, a signup sheet will be available at the front office or in the clubhouse before the meeting.
Aquatic Weed Management came out to examine our Hydrilla issue in the lake Tuesday. Unfortunately it has made it out of the lagoon, that drastically changes treatment methods available. Chemical treatments available for Hydrilla Involve saturating the water the plant is growing in for a period of time. If the plant was limited to the lagoon it would have been possible to close off the affected for treatment. There are however maintenance options available to control the Hydrilla.
One is a more concentrated chemical that berns visible blooms of the plant away. This option leaves the root system intact and it will eventually grow back. New blooms will also be something to contend with. While all the areas of Hydrilla that have been reported to me have been along our shore lines, there is always the possibility it is growing in other areas we don't own and we cannot force those owners to treat their shores.
One of the other treatment options is grass carp. These are genetically engineered fish that eat Hydrilla. They are sterile so they cannot reproduce and live for 5 years. You also must obtain a permit from the state to be able to use them. Aquatic Weed Management is also going to have their Air-boat out here in the next few weeks to better examine the entire lake, so I will have more updates with better information in the future.
Thank you and have a Great week!
