President’s Message
I’d like to welcome all of our owners who have just arrived for the in the resort for their winter
stay and all those who are returning after spending Christmas back at home.
Now all the resort’s activities are back up to full speed.
We are now in the midst of an election campaign. We have several good candidates in the race and they all had the chance to introduce themselves to the owners at the public forum which was held a week ago. Now it is up to all of you to cast your ballots to select who will replace those directors who will be stepping down.
It is very important that all of us exercise our responsibility to help in this decision and in expressing your opinion on the 2017-18 budget proposal.
At our Dec.14th Board meeting, we reported that the Revitalization of our Covenants was still under review. Although these results have been previously posted, I am very happy to announce here that our Revitalized Covenants have been reaffirmed. This effort that lasted over three years is over. Our “Covenants” have been Revitalized. One of are owners has reported that there will be a further appeal in a district court but, if that happens, that complaint will now be against the State of Florida. SLohA will not be the defendant in that case. That battle should be over. One more hurdle behind us.
I spoke to an owner, this past week, and she expressed fear that somehow S-bag might not survive and and she would be left without a home. It made me wonder if others are feeling fear about our future as well. There has been much talk about our legal expenses and they are definitely a cause for concern. Some are anxious that the effort to reinstate our “Rules” is taking so long. S-bag has gone through some difficult times in recent years and it is understandable that many of us have grown weary of the fight but all of our owners need to know that SLohA is GREAT SHAPE.
The fact that our Board has been looking for places to trim its expenses comes not out of fear but determination to keep our quarterly fees at a level where all of our owners will continue to be able to meet their dues and enjoy life here in this S-bag.
S-bag’s financial foundation is sound. The reserve fund which has been building over the years is now such that we can replace any of of facilities and equipment as required. We have an excellent staff to manage the operation of the resort and the services of an excellent management company to handle the business of the corporation. We have committed and capable Board Members to guide and oversee these operations. There is no need for fear.
S-bag will never again be what it was 40 years ago. Times have changed and S-bag is adapting to those changes in a way that will ensure its survival well into the future. Several long-time residents here have told me that the resort has never been in better shape and that’s the message that all of us need to share.
