The Board posted: I can think of many things of greater importance than funding yet another way for MANBOD to obfuscate financial reporting in S-bag. Especially using Stmbug Ixx's proprietary software which is designed as an internal MANAGEMENT tool for CAMS and Accounting. This is from the TOPS website TOPS? : TOPS IQ packages are from $300-500/month. They are used by CAMS and accounting. I saw nothing on the website that indicates that owners are directly benefiting from an interactive website or access to business information. Looks like just another layer of automated management added to the poor one we have already. As far as communication goes--how about starting with honest and transparent communication of business that OWNERS want? As far as this little demo and discussion goes, the Board has already decided to lease the TOPS software and owners will just have to pay for it. This is a Dog 'n Pony Show. Do Owners want to pay a second, automated way for the board to manipulate the truth, "manage Owners", confuse Owners about finances and spend more Owner money doing it? Do owners get a vote>>>>>>>> NO!FREE: Any number of FREE websites that registers owners with passwords. FREE: Posting the check registers with intelligible annotations and line item budget expenditures--for starters--under Finances FREE: Posting a REAL Treasurer's report with relevant comments other than "Everything looks good". FREE: Posting Minutes, Audits, Announcements, KCNet advertising, MythBusters etc on a FREE website Minimal Cost/Maximum Return: How about election reform and the long-promised-but-NO-RESULTS electronic voting? People have had it with ugly 1960-era file cabinets with paperclip closures and BarbieDoll locks, removing and opening ballots before the Annual Meeting, declaring ballots "mutilated", and violating bylaws to achieve desired results. I am against spending one more dime of owner money on things that the BOARD, in its infinite self-interest wants--and that owners do not want!

The headline reads: "TOPS Condo/HOA Website Demonstration & Forum"
So I guess we need to attend to see if this is a open Forum, and does it replace our well known
Chug Site.....

Indeed.
Dick, I believe there are few Owners who have been as persistently diligent and invested as much time and money as I have in seeking and promoting open and uncensored discussion of SLohA issues. I SINCERELY hope that the Board is going to turn over a new leaf in communication in the future, but I remain doubtful, and here is why.
The definition of "forum" is: Public medium (such as a newspaper column) or place used for debates in which anyone can participate. In Roman times it meant a public place at the center of a market or town where open discussions on judicial, political, and other issues were held.
The trend for this board and previous boards has been in the direction of increasing secrecy and member exclusion, progressing to the "ramming" technique of governance, shutting down Board/Owner Workshops and forbidding participation at meetings by denying Owner Comments until after adjourning official meetings. The current climate does not give me confidence that there is going to be a sudden change in philosophy and that the board will suddenly sponsor an open, uncensored venue for all Owners' to debate different viewpoints.
I strongly suspect that a new Board Forum will echo the old CHUG "Current Issues" and be closely monitored before publishing. The board will insist that monitoring is necessary and limit ideas and beliefs as necessary to prevent their unique definition of "libel" (as opposed to the legal meaning). Anything written that was remotely construed as critical or a departure from the Board line would be labeled dangerous or simply ignored--or some lame excuse made (as was done recently with member correspondence to the board about the towers). Most Owners who cared to register would choose to read and be afraid to stick their necks out and post comments for fear of intimidation or social ostracism.
An open forum would simply be inconsistent with past and present Board behavior. I SINCERELY hope that I am wrong about this! But, as Dr Phil says "The best predictor of future behavior is relevant past behavior".
If the Board proves my opinion wrong, I will publicly publish a profound apology to the Board on their Forum and my Forum. Further, I will also publicly apologize at a Board meeting. We sH all see.
