I am so excited I can barely contain myself. The current board adopted an SOP that actually makes sense and has a chance of relieving the Pool situation and, in the bigger picture, premises liability!
And, the revised SOP was adopted DESPITE D's persistent effort to not only PREVENT its adoption, but to dilute the current SOP! D was the only NAY and Rgr Blingz wussed out on the vote and asked for permission to abstain.
Tummy Blkbrn is the hero and kept the motion alive and was committed to actually doing something about the severe and continuing problems at the pool which have dramatically escalated this summer. Two owners wrote quite detailed and angry letters about the lack of action in controlling visitor access to our amenities.
Upon investigation of the problem, it came as a complete surprise to our President that the Front Desk maintained an "Anytime Visitor Book" that was ancient and had names of pre-authorized visitors whose owners do not own here and do not live on the property during the summer (or maybe anytime). Our President was gobsmacked by the existence of the book and moved that it be destroyed!
Now comes the good part!
This entire pool discussion described obnoxious, dangerous and combative behavior at the pool since May. It was also preceded by severe complaints about the Clubhouse being used by people outside the park without Owners in attendance and also another party that was held serving alcohol. Not an owner in sight! The Clubhouse kitchen was left a mess and alcohol was being consumed on the premises and in glass bottles at the pool deck. Of course, beverages ended up in the pool.
The current SOP #13 specifies that guests MUST BE ATTENDED by their Owners at all functions and amenities. D wanted to change the SOP to read that Owners must be responsible for their Guests conduct (as opposed to Owners being in attendance with their guests).
Stv Suthrd cH allenged that and said "how would anyone know WHO did damage to our amenities if the Owner was not present with their Guests?" (Does D think the visitor would voluntarily report their damage to the Office? D of course had no answer...). Stv Suthrd then made a motion to "do away with the Anytime Visitor Book" AND to require Owners to be physically present with Guests at all times.
D objected and tried to divert attention and said it was getting late and that more research was needed blah blah....
Tummy, in alarm, said "I think the situation is urgent and escalating and we need to take action today--SOP's are fluid and can be easily changed if needed."
D said "OK Stv could you make just the first part of your motion (the part about doing away with the Anytime Visitor Book) and Stv said "NO-it is my motion and I'll move as written".
So the motion was made and carried by Blkbrn, Rite, Suthrd, Sm all and Schlz. Blingz wussed out with an abstain. He claimed he could only hear 30% of the motion, yet he was present and apparently heard motions and discussion for the previous 1 1/2 hours of the meeting.) Brnd was the only NAY.
It was a historical and remarkable event--the BOARD actually disagreed on something and it finally DID something for the Owners I agreed with! The problem is that is only changes one thing from what it was previously--it ditched the "Anytime Visitor Book". It remains to be seen if these "anytime visitors" are the problem element.
What it also did was to restate the commitment of the Board that Owners need to BE WITH their visitors. Tummy stated at the end that people need to FEEDBACK to the Board the effectiveness of this measure.
