President’s Message Sept. 7, 2017
Tonight, my wife, Nunsee and I are packing up to fly back home to Ontario in the morning.
We have spent the last couple of weeks in S-bag and we have loved every minute of our time here.
We have had a chance to reunite with many of the year-round residents and to share in some of the summertime activities in the resort. Je Sk evers and her crew put on a wonderful Labor Day spread at the clubhouse and we were amazed by the turnout.
Unfortunately, the last few days of our stay have been consumed by talk about and preparations for hurricane Irma. As I write this my emotions are very mixed. Had we not already had a round trip booked, I would be staying to ride this out with the rest of our residents in the resort. Many have already packed up and headed to some northern refuge just in case the worst happens but many will be here to await what comes.
I have been glad to be here to see S-bag’s emergency procedures put into place. Our staff seems to have thought of everything and Chap has been marvellous in the calm, calculated way he has gone down his check-list to ensure that nothing has been overlooked. Once again, I have been humbled by the devotion of our entire staff as they put their own home and family concerns aside to make sure that we in S-bag are looked after.
We took a last drive around the resort tonight and stopped in to see that both the clubhouse and memorial H all are all set up for those who choose to weather the storm there. We hope none has to use these facilities but some have already begun to build themselves a nest just in case they are needed.
Everywhere you look things are put away or tied down.
The staff will be in tomorrow to complete preparations and Chap and two of the maintenance crew will be on call over the weekend.
For those of us, from northern climes, these kinds of preparations are something that we have never had to face. Those that I have spoken to, who have been through these events before, seem to face what’s coming more matter of factly. They will take whatever precautions that they can and hope for the best.
That is what we are all hoping for tonight, that this storm will not be near as bad as it could be, that you who are still in S-bag will take the precautions that are necessary and everyone of us will be able to reunite, after the storm, in this place that we love.
Be safe,
leery
