I was reading The RedBook about The BI-LAWS of SLohA. On (pg.4) ARTICLE V, DIRECTORS, Section 1. it reads: (quote)
The Election Committee sH all oversee the entire election process; including, but not limited to, public notices to the members of upcoming elections, obtaining and processing of petitions of candidacy, mailing of absentee ballots, receipt and control of all ballots received (which sH all remain in the "official ballot box" until Election Day), counting of ballots and reporting the results of same at the Annual Meeting aforesaid. The Election Committee Chairperson sH all enlist additional persons to assist in mailing and distribution of ballots and any other clerical task and sH all inform the Board of Directors of the names of such persons. A person who is a candidate for Director sH all not be permitted to participate in any function of the Election Committee. (end quote)
Ok, My Questions are: (#1) Is the Official Ballot Box located in the SLR's Front Office? Or is it a Locked File Cabinet in a back room in the Office? If so why are they moved daily? And does only the Election Committee move the ballots from front box to back file cabinet? The above Quote from Article 5, section 1 , states; control of all ballots received, which sH all remain in the Official Ballot Box until Election Day. I have asked these questions to the BOD's before and never got a straight answer.
Another question I have is : When is Election Day? Is that the day of The Community's Annual Meeting? Which is always on a Saturday. If Election Day and The Annual Meeting are one in the same. Why do we Count the Ballots on a Friday afternoon in a Locked Clubhouse? Is Friday Election Day? The above Quote from Article V, Section 1; The Election Committee sH all have receipt and control of all ballots received ( which sH all remain in the "Official Ballot Box" until Election Day). So again when is Election Day? On a Friday afternoon or on a Saturday morning.
If they count the ballots a day before they give the BOD and the Residents the results, is that what ARTICLE V Section 1 States?
I personally think the envelopes and the ballots are being placed in to many hands, to many times, during the Election process. I say put the Ballots in a Official Locked & Sealed Ballot Box, then take that Sealed Ballot Box on the Day of The Annual Meeting, and on that day, count The Ballots in The New Annex Bldg. The residents can wait in The Clubhouse for the "Results". In todays world this is a very poor process to Vote for new Board Members. The Ballots are touched to many times !
I hope someone can answer these question. Yes, I know this is the way we have been having BOD Elections for many years. Thanks for Any Answers :-)
