There is no agenda yet; however, several residents have reported that an owner has placed an item on the agenda regarding the brand new doublewide manufactured home that is now sitting askew on her lot on SS, perched dangerously close to an oak tree. The home has been delivered but, reportedly, the "Manager" denied the owner's contractors access to the home to set it up. Reason: Porch is on the front.
Access was denied despite the fact that IT had previously signed a "permission slip" for the site plan and Polk County issued a permit. According to reports, IT "did not know what she was signing" and now wants to revoke her permission slip. (Of course IT did not know what she was signing, she is not a contractor and has no contracting experience.)
This situation will be on the agenda at this workshop. Hopefully, the BOD will do the reasonable thing and avoid provoking yet another lawsuit due to the "manager's" ignorance and actions detrimental to the safety of the home and contrary to the rights of the owners. BOD is racking up a lot of bloopers and ridicule lately and really cannot afford yet another reason for owner "loss of confidence." Since there are MANY, MANY manufactured homes similarly sited i.e. with a porch in front, denial of this would surely lead to a selective enforcement lawsuit.

Actually, there will be at least two owners w/this problem that I know of that are attending this meeting, (Tuesday, March 4, 2014 @ 9 a.m. at the Clubhouse,) one owner I spoke w/today is on STN, the other is on SS, and yes, they both asked for support at the meetings. They said they could use it and it would be greatly appreciated! |

The workshop had to be cancelled today and rescheduled for tomorrow due to the massive turnout. Mange kept inviting people in knowing full well that the building was over the fire limit capacity. UGH!!! Mange really needs to go, this is just another strike against her.
The Owners were really upset with having this rescheduled.

Was there a compelling reason that this could not have been moved into the main Clubhouse? It sounds like more MANBOD dirty tricks to me. Just got a PhoneVite that the BOD workshop originally rescheduled for tomorrow (Weds) has been RESCHEDULED for Thurs March 6 @2pm in the Clubhouse. This was said to be due to the need to post a 48 hour notice.

I am a resident in this community and just saw the post of the double wide. I find this very annoying that a person buys a home and spends all that time and effort to ensure to do the right things...And then someone that is clueless can stop one ..What the hell is going on? Are we all brain dead in here to allow this to happen to this person? This can be one of us ..I think it's high time we take back this community as residents and run it by the residents--not by a few chosen few..Those players on the board have a fiduciary duty and are responsible to us....to say the least and they sH all be held accountable..
This seem like we are in grade school ..How did we end up with a management company that it is clear to see they are not qualified .. ?
I am just saying..

I Hayvn't listened to the audio recording yet, but I got some highlights:
KL resigned and in his letter blamed "his health and the differing opinions of others" for contributing to his stressed out state. PB took over as president and CM took the vacant VP spot. New director was CS.
A R, who was rumored to have resigned, recanted his rumored resignation, stating he refused to allow the "persons with differing opinions" run him out of office. "Welcome Back AR!" Persons with differing opinions really don't have much of an opinion about your performance on the board. You are a dutiful Yes Man--and you have a lot of company!
A new Board member, CS, was appointed. A few days ago after a BOD meeting, this future board representative was lying in wait in the CH parking lot for a "person with a differing opinion". When the person was no longer surrounded by neighbors, he approached him, scowled and said "I hope you are happy now" with no reference whatsoever to what he was referring to. The person who he addressed was perplexed, but recognizing that he was encountering a possibly unhinged individual, attempted to de-escalate the hostility and replied "Jesus loves you too". The scowling future Board member replied "You don't know who Jesus is" and stomped off without further comment. This is the kind of person that the board wants to associate itself with.
The issues on the manufactured homes were tabled until the CLOSED meeting of the Directors on the 13th. This meeting does not meet the statutory definition of client-attorney privilege because this is an issue about a community-wide issue--not pending or proposed litigation. An attorney has opined that this is an Open Meeting to all members. There is nothing secret or proprietary going on in that meeting. (BOD should realize by now that Residents have TWO attorneys on Speed Dial!)
DB entered a post from this Forum into the Official Record. DB did not read the post verbatim and "filled in" the post with his own version of events. A Member accused DB of lying. DB got very agitated. Ordered "someone from the universe" to remove the Member calling him out as a liar. Accused Member will reportedly be entering a rebuttal into the official record incorporating the actual text of the post referred to.
DB threatened to shut down the Forum. Yawn. He is a blowhard like BS. Will Members approve of him spending Association money on pursuing those who call him out on his BS? If your personal ego is hurt, DB, spend your Own money!
BB, a past president, called out this board on its general attitude of refusal to hear opinions of members and resolving issues, rather, it wants to fight about everything.

I cant believe how this Board acts, self centered, egotistical and rude. Blaming Owners and refusing to take responsibility for their mistakes and blunders. Its a good thing we don't pay them because it would be another complete waste of money.
And Mr. Grnt is right, D is a very big coward and a sniveling crybaby, it's so obvious he is very full of himself and his title. Good for Mr. Grnt .
Mr. B should take a good look at himself and see that what he is doing isn't helping himself one little bit, stupid is as stupid does as they say. D mentions death threats but I see its more like D is scared to death .

It is this kind of kneejerk reaction and lack of thoughtful reflection and insight that will immobilize the board to solve problems and create others. The lights in the parking lot are a SAFETY ISSUE! AR--what if someone falls due to lack of lighting and SLohA is sued while you are ruminating on your possible resignation and nursing your resentment towards "those with differing opinions"? Will you pick up the tab for SLohA for the amount not covered by insurance?
Further, I am troubled by an undertone to AR's and other BOD comments. It sounds like the BOD is subtly holding owners hoSt age to ratifying the budget before owners can get needed lighting. Maybe they do not realize how such a comment sounds. Tying a necessary infrastructure safety device to Owners performance of a desired administrative outcome is unconscionable. The lights should be the top budget allocation to protect the owners and their guests! Why not charge it on the Manager's unlimited credit card you have given her!
And this isn't the only comment that is troubling; this resentment of the board toward the owners appears to be epidemic:

It is obvious that the BOD is defensive but they need to get it together and stop blaming the owners for problems they will not or cannot solve with their current plan (or should I say with the MANAGEMENT Company's plan).

For what it's worth, I would like to say what a cleansing breath of fresh air was introduced by the new President Chairman, PB. P ete did a great job of facilitating a Very Difficult meeting. The fact that he was quick to apologize to the aggrieved owners over the regrettable situation involving their new home demonstrated the traits a leader should have--a calm manner, civility, empathy and "reading the mood of the governed". Smart and sweet, P ete!
The only conduct of Board meetings that continues to be inappropriate and uncontrolled is the DB problem. I hope that PB will be better prepared to demand "out of order" material to these kinds of personal, self-serving eruptions of individual ego disturbances and behavioral conflicts which are not SLohA business. The fact is that DB's comments triggered an audience member to angrily shout out in protest of DB's lies and half-truths and that is not correct behavior either and the audience member realized that and sat down immediately. However, like the traffic incident referred to by DB--which was the subject of a social media post--DB provokes these kinds of unpleasant encounters. Recounting his personal vendettas does not belong in a business meeting. This person should seek outside help to deal with these kinds of problems and not subject the membership to this kind of thing during business meetings.

Well said . I must say that DB needs to have a face to face with Mr. Grnt or keep his big yap shut.
DB is not a authoritative figure over anyone in SLR and I think Mr. Grnt has made that point very clear to DB.

Sml..... why won't "Sml" print out??? Sorry y'all-you will see this frustrating thing every once in awhile because I have programmed "censored words" on the forum to obscure real names. This prevents me from having to do a lot of editing especially of the Minutes all the time. The censor lists identifies the name and automatically changes it to an abbreviated version of the name. In this case, the word "Sml" has been censored in honor of the director by the same name, so that word will automatically be transformed to the abbreviated version "Sml". You will also see odd spacing sometimes. This prevents external search engines from picking up actual peoples' names on searches. |
