Several folks were "caregivers" to Cassie when I lived in S-bag and they know who they are and they also know how important Cassie was to me. She lived nearly half her life in SLR. I have written to each of them to let them know that Cassie has passed away. Today, it was necessary to euthanize Cassie; she was nearly 14 years old. Her remains will be scattered among the redwoods in northern California. Cassie was named for her father, Casanova, and is remembered as a veteran traveler-companion with S u e, having crossed the country in my RV 9 times. She loved travelling and the new smells, people and dogs she met over the thousands of miles. This photo shows her on the "Lost Coast" of California with the wind at her face! She loved that! She was a hardy canine, having survived puppy parvo at a few weeks of age. Sadly, she succumbed to a blood disorder. She was a member of my immediate family for almost 14 years. Her passing was planned and gentle, but the loss of my companion is exquisitely painful. I thank those who participated in my life with Cassie and wish her to Rest In Peace.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Our furry family members have given us so much and touched our hearts in very special ways. I guess now when you see anything white and fluffy you will want to call it Cassie and cuddle it. Watch out for flying snowballs. Just a little monk humor.

My late wife, Liz, had a saying" The trouble with dogs is that...first, they steal your heart, then they break it." Jessie's going on 12 now and I'm trying to prepare myself for the time that she will also be crossing the rainbow bridge. As James Thurber put it: "If I have any beliefs about immortality, it’s that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven and very, very few people"
