If you have a very bad chlorine smell in your water in SLR. You could buy a cheap swimming pool chlorine test kit at Walmart or a Pool Supply Store. Then test the water for the chlorine content. This may give you some idea of the level of chlorine in your water. I have not tried this test, but a friend told me about the pool test kit idea. Just for your info...

SLR has been changing out Water Meters, does our Maintenance people Chlorinate the water pipes during the installation. I was just curious. The location of the Water Meters are below grade, in a nasty location.

Do you know WHY they are changing out the meters? Do you know if there are still large discrepancies in the water In/Out? There's got to be something motivating replacement of equipment.
Good to know this and get a heads up. Nasty location indeed--running alongside near the leaky sewer pipes! I will be certain to run my water well before consuming it as I can't trust this outfit to do things right and sanitize the plumbing. They just learned how to do a Boil Water Advisory!

We have been changing out the outdoor 3 St age carbon filters on a more frequent basis lately. I am thinking that one of the wells is pumping sand as it was doing years ago when Nathalie shut one well pump down. I would expect the MANBOD to let us know what's up with all the sand in the pipes, there has been 2 occasions of hydrant flushing in a one week period, one by a Company that we pay to do it and then by our own staff just days later.

Callout for expertise and experience for input on whole house water filtration and softening systems.
Any info on what to look for and what to avoid? What about reverse osmosis? I am thinking of putting in some kind of system-getting tired of hauling water bottles and I have a feeling the problem at the plant is going to deteriorate. Will a whole house filtration system also get clogged up with sand if SLR wells need to be backwashed weekly (or more)? Is it an appropriate goal to filter park water or is drinking water delivery a better alternative for the present? (Looking for something for a few $hun to fill the bill.)

Reply to meters
Many of the meters are ,in some cases 2 feet below the ground
Moisture has made the meters hard to read and are often covered up with sand.
There were many faulty meters that had to be replaced
Ours showed 90 000 gallons at one reading which is impossible
I think 270 were replaced when the water lines were done and they are continuing to replace the lot in time
It is good to see that the guys are doing them and not a contractor

Thanks for the info on the meter replacement project.
Last summer while I was absent from May to Nov my water meter reading said I used over 10K gallons. But my water was turned off at the main and I was'nt even home! I guess they will get around to replacing mine sometime--it is always completely covered with dirt and sand and at least 1 foot deep. The lever to turn off is very hard to turn and you need a wrench.

OK, So how do they keep that cruddy sand from contaminating your drinking water? If Maintenance makes any water line repairs in the Park. The Residents get a boil water notice. But what is the Notice when they change out a water meter. Maybe they do not have to disconnect any water connections at the Meter. I just do not trust their skills, just look at how "Maintenance Sprays Herbicides" in SLR. SLR's employees do not get the correct training that is needed in the work place in 2014. "Just A Get It Done Attitude" I do not blame the employees, but I do blame their Supervisor & Management, for lack of any type of Training, or a Safety Program. My old Safety Director would be doing Back-Flips, if he was a resident in SLR. Just "one" example: The Safety Cones that are in use in SLR, are at lest 30 yrs. old. The color of a Safety Cone is "Orange", it is not "Black".
