I am confused. Is Spectrum the same as Charter Spectrum? I was looking up internet/tv providers servicing lake wales and found that Charter Spectrum was servicing a PART of S-bag according to the coverage map. The cost is $49.99/mo for internet and only $49.99 for installation including their own modem. That seems to be a lot less expensive than the OMG Spectrum KOA sheet (KOA-campers used to refer to the chain as "Keep On Adding"). There is no number to call on the Spectrum handout sheet so it is hard to know if this is the same outfit or a different one or maybe it is cheaper to order via internet.

I believe Spectrum bought out Brighthouse a few years back. I don't know about Charter
It is also my understanding is that one can put his/her Sprectum account on "vacation mode". For how long, I don't know.
The other thing I am curious about is if Spectrum is similar to my DISH TV service. With DISH TV, I have one account but two locations. So, when I come down to Florida, I simply bring my receiver with me and, after hooking up the receiver to the satellite dish on my roof, I call DISH - technical support. They then switch me to the Florida local channels.
I know Sprectrum also serves northern Wisconsin -my "summer home". So, if I get the right answers, I will probably drop my DISH TV and my AT&T U-verse and go with Sprectum for both internet and TV, thereby taking advantage of Sprectrum's bundle pricing package.

Ill be glad to assist any way I can to get S-bag back online with internet service. As you can imagine I have moved on to bigger and better pastures. However I have contacts and resources available to assist in getting your services restored and S-bag internet back on the air. I believe it is a wise choice for S-bag to own the service and simply pay a consulting company to assist with setup and management. Please let me know if this is of interest and I can provide contact information so we can discuss details.
Thanks

Thank you for your offer to help S-bag be an independent owner/provider of its own service. It was originally presented to be just that by Kay c Ntwerk to replace the sudden departure of your service back in 2010 (?). I hope that our board will enter into a conversation with you about this but there may need to be some clouds and questions settled with Kay c Ntwerk first. I would love to see S-bag own its own internet infrastructure and service and I think this would be a valuable amenity for present and future owners. The internet is in everyone's future as an essential service.

Noticed a nekked tower down at the storage lot. All the dishes and paraphenalia have been removed. It was a glorious site see to the eyesore remnants of the Kay c Net scam gone! Has the board learned any lessons from this disaster? Time will tell, I guess.
Does this mean that SLohA is now free to enter into a FAIR lease with another entity for the use of its towers?

I also noticed that MorNet van has been in the park. A few weeks ago, there was a guy in a beat up sedan who knocked on my door and said that he "needed" my number and was from Mornet. I knew nothing about Mornet and told him I was not interested in giving out my number to strangers. I saw no business association ID and since he seemed to be soliciting, I called Security in the Office.
Apparently, they are a legit business offering fairly modest internet speeds with no contracts but since I am not in the market, I have not done any research comparing them with Spectrum or satellite bundles. Maybe there is someone out there who has...?

Your reference to MORnet tweaked my curiosity so I did some research on this company via the internet. In 1998, Paul Corey Morris started Morris Satellites, a DISH Ntwerk affiliated installer of satellite TV systems. In 2014, Morris branched out into the Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) business under the name MORnet. MORnet's office is located at 728 N Scenic Highway, Lake Wales. Public records indicate that Morris is a registered Republican voter. As such, I assume that he has no criminal record.
What I find curious is that the SLohA Board had entered into that incredibly one-sided tower lease with KCNET in December, 2016 because "previous attempts with other providers to secure internet and WiFi service to S-bag Lake Homeowners Association, Inc. ('SLohA') have been unsuccessful" [page 1, paragraph 2 of the COMMUNICATIONS SITE LEASE AGREEMENT].
Really?? How hard did our Board & staff look, considering that there was at least one other wireless internet service provider operating practically in our backyard?!

This is not a board/management company strong on truth-telling. I look forward to Chapter 2 in the upcoming scheme with The Right Solution (TRS), another in-house, in-park wannabe provider that was just conveniently handy to "take over" the Kay c Net vacuum...
I am hopeful but skeptical that owners will get a fair shake on the tower lease this time around and are offered a reasonable option for no-contract seasonal service. Looks like there are now 3 providers; MorNet, Spectrum and possibly the successor to KCNet (TRS). There are undoubtedly additional options out there.

Don't forget the fourth player - Verizon Mifi. When KCNET service suddenly stopped, many Saddlebaggers signed up for a Verizon Jetpack plan. I bring this up because this will undoubtedly affect the pool of potential customers for the other 3 ISP's, since those who went with the Verizon Postpaid plan are "locked in" for the next 2 years. I also opted for a Jetpack but I chose a "no contract - prepaid plan", which works much like those prepaid phones one can buy at Walmart. You purchase the Jetpack for $123 and then "buy" minutes as you need them. So, when I'm at home in Wisconsin and using my AT&T internet service, I simply let my Jetpack minutes run out. But I can re-activate my jetpack at any time by simply calling Verizon and using my credit card (which Verizon already has on file) to buy more minutes. The one disadvantage is that your unused Jetpack minutes do not carry over. You lose them at the end of the month.

Interesting. That is a good comparison of yet another provider plan available to those who are not power users of internet. Fiber optics is nice and fast, but is really overkill for most people, I think. I do use the internet more than many and I would need a bit more than prepaid minutes. But, I don't want a contract or need a data-heavy/turbo fast plan. When Spectrum gets up and running (which I am told will be September), I get a comparison worksheet of the available plans.
Thanks for the info.
