Attachment DeletedAugust 26, 2013 Full report on Chug's Koffee-Klatch today. Please send your ideas for a new sign to the BOD. We now know where it can be placed. Survey for sign location found. __________________________________________ August 27, 2013 Polk County will dictate where on our property a sign can be placed if it is going to migrate from its current position. There is no reason I can see to tear down the old sign, contract an engineer, pay for an engineer to do permitting and build a new entrance sign! The old one can use some rehabbing; why are we soliciting residents to submit ideas for a new sign? Is IT executing/eliminating the Reserves again? ______________________________________________ Listen UP People: The new sign is NOT a necessity at this time and as such, should NOT even be considered for replacement until all other projects that are really NEEDED are done; this was even said by the manager, that projects of safety concern come first, then necessary projects second, then wants come third. The sign is a WANT, not a safety concern or a necessity! ___________________________________________________ September 21, 2013 With all of the talk about a new sign at rt.60 and please send us your design drawing. I decide to stop today and take a closer look of our sign. First, it must have a very large wasp's nest in side of the panels. The 2 side pillars have some rotten T1-11 boards at the base of each pillar. Some one did not caulk were the 8ft top board meets the bottom board. Rain water has rotted these bottom T1-11 boards. So the boards need to be remove to see if there is any more damage behind the lower T1-11. It maybe just a simple redo of some of the exterior T1-11. It may need a couple of wood shingles replaced. The old style wooden landscape timbers, need to be replace. But, I think with a little paint & TLC, it could be fixed. Just my take, but it looks like it has never been maintain, with proper caulking, and paint. It looks good from 50ft. Just for your info... :-) Tri-Butt ______________________________________ September 21, 2013 But...but...but...if ya FIX it, it won't cost much money! IT's job at SLR is to support the contractors and execute our reserves! _______________________________________________________ September 22, 2013 The neglected maintenance on our SLR Sign is the problem. That is do to a lack of leadership in management. No problem, we will just get a new sign. It is very easy to spend other peoples money. I never had a problem spending the Government's money on equipment. _________________________________________________ When Lorenzo was employed here, he painted the SLR sign every year. Now, others, do not care. Or like when KL was questioned, he stated, I have not had the time to paint it. _______________________________________________________________________

With a new Sign everything will be wonderful as soon as you turn off of SR-60 !
I'm off to Church now to repent my sins and aggressions towards my fellow neighbors for the past week and cleanse my retched soul. Then I can start over being a hypocrite, and believing whatever I am told without ever thinking about right from wrong. Well at least until next Sunday. PTL ! ______________________________________________________ June 16, 2013
Why Do WE Need "A New Entrance Sign"? How about a coat of Paint with reflective beads added, for those who can not see the present entrance sign at night. Lets use common sense and Be a little Frugal.. Did I miss this Item in the Budget? ___________________________________________
Just maybe a new SLR sign on Rt. 60 would increase property values in SLR. ________________________________________________- That entrance sign is embarrassing. If I were a buyer wandering around looking to buy real estate in Lake Wales, I would pass up SLR just on the basis of the shabby entrance sign. We do not need a new sign. Removing the ratty-looking cactus and a new coat of paint would do wonders to improve its appearance.
Maybe IT has spent all the money on making new rule signs and the Maintenance Dept is just too busy planting IT's signs on the property. Or maybe IT plans to execute the reserves and erect a monolith with gold leaf lettering, a fountain waterfall surrounded by irrigated hibiscus and flashing neon arrow pointing toward the entry road. It would be a bonus if the project required required extensive concrete, electrical and plumbing work.
Budget? No budget for emergency repairs of the drainage problem allowing water to ruin an owner's residence but undoubtedly the money will be found to do a major ego rehab to the entry sign. _________________________________________________________ I am in total agreement with the above post. Paint and TLC would do wonders. I believe the Rt.60 sign was replaced 6 years ago. I maybe wrong on the replacement date of the present sign. The sign was damaged by past hurricanes, I think.

Stop Wasting SLR's Members $$$s. Replace some of the T1-11 Siding, replace some of the wooden shingles, a fresh coat of paint, (color of your choice), landscape with raised block flower-bed, plant can't Kill Plants in raised flower bed. Maybe add 2 lamps aiming down to show off the flower-bed at night. It is time to Cut cost in SLR, and add savings to our Reserve Funds, before our leaders Bankrupt SLR. We are in for hard times, if SLR's Residents, do not wake-up soon, and take back control of our community....

They maybe listening to our Post, M e l in her Report on 6/30/14, stated Foot Painting made Repairs and Painted the SLR Sign on Rt60.... If this is true, good move.... The question should be asked: Did the repair and painting of the old sign cost us just as much as a new sign? Is the old sign that's been repaired and painted going to be replaced with the new sign when owners return in the fall?
Always look beyond what you see in front of you then ask more questions! Foot Painting does do good work, he seems to get many jobs in SLR.

Q--love your name reminds me of James Bond adventures. Your post was thoughtful and reminds us of two things possibly going on behind the obvious repair: the discounting or sharing of money to perform the service (there's usually a reason the same vendor is used over and over...) and that these individual costs are invisible to owners because BOD has decided that it is a fact owners should not permitted to see without an Official Records request.
To your very good questions, I would like to add one more: "When was sign plan change discussed at a business meeting?" This plan had already been approved and allocated. What is the reason for the change in plan and why wasn't it discussed at a business meeting? Who decided and when and why--and how (more secret email?)? This was a "hot topic" and many members were upset about the shabbiness of the entrance sign. Despite disagreement in the timing of this cosmetic expenditure, there was a reasonable expectation that the BOD would do what it said it would do--replace the sign! There was money spent on preparing the sign for replacement and now that money is down the drain and will have to be re-spent at some point in the future. "Git 'er done--twice!"
It is usual in HOA's that "where the money is going" is the business that most people are concerned about, and it is customary for responsive and responsible members to provide SLohA expenditure detail to other members. BOD's long-standing refusal to be transparent in financial matters, despite several requests to provide expenditure detail from Operating and Reserves-is the single most troubling policy of this regime. I believe this policy comes from the management company "recommendation"---as do all things coming out of this BOD.
That aside, the lack of the new "promised" sign will be noted by returning visitors. When questioned, MANBOD will no doubt say that they had to cut back on projects due to the high legal costs-and blame others.

Can anyone please post pictures of refurbished entrance sign. Thanks.... Just my 2 cents, but I believe they did not realize the total cost of a new sign. The face lift for the present sign is far more cheaper then a new one. In SLR it would have to be a Grand New Sign. Grand Cost Money, they do not have at the present.

Dick Tracy- a new sign would have been as self-serving and financially extravagant as the Sheego recommending it!
Just imagine--an 80', techno-stylized, delicately-latticed tower with a revolving beacon cleverly housed inside a translucent (and freshly-painted) garbage stump topped and edged with gold leaf, surrounded by roaring waterfalls and spritely fountains, illuminated from within by a million synchronized Las Vegas Style bulbs and energized with a "living" hologram illustrating the unique lifestyle in SLR.
(Ok I bet you're thinking that I should knock off the wine for awhile...)
Think about the discount on that project!

An maybe KCN could install a phone modem and a emergency call box and collect lease money from the County! Sounds like what we really need!

The Wine is OK, but it may be the Creek Water, making you H allucinate. Our old friend, Lorenzo, painted and maintained the entrance sign, just about every year. I hope someone has a vision, for a new landscape theme. The old landscape timbers have to go!!! A raised mounded flower bed, with can't kill plants... O-Crap, What am I saying, I must of had a drink of that creek water, makes you dream stupid.

Well, we returned to SLR yesterday and the refurbished entrance sign looks just fine. Bright tan shingles, dark green outside columns, same landscape theme (dated), but also the State or Polk Co. placed two street lamp, mounted on two tall metal post, on each side of S-bag Lake Road. It maybe as bright as our pool lamps. If you can not see the entrance road to SLR at night now, maybe you should just stay home at night. I think that when they learned that 2 towering street lamps were going to be placed at the entrance road to SLR, they decided to refurbish our old sign to Save Money!!!! Now our Board has some extra cash, to spend on New Tennis Courts and a New Tennis Fence. Now they can pay the aprox. cost for Court & Fence of $150,000 and maybe more.. Gee, can I have the old fence from the Courts and Maintenance Yard. SLR Dog Owner may use the Fence, to erect a secure dog area, of course they would Volunteer, the Dog Owners would want it done correctly. Maybe I am Dreaming Again..... O-Yes, we would also paint the fence, Tennis Ball Yellow or OSHA Safety Yellow. Any extra fencing, we could sell for scape, and purchase Solar Lamps, to light up the area in the evenings and early morning hours. Just like the Pool Area's new schedule for lighting.... Boy, I sure got off topic... Sorry!!! )

Today we went out of SLR and the New Street Lamps are also on both sides of Rt. 60 heading East to Vero Beach. The street lights are about 150 yds apart on both sides of Rt. 60 East, as far as you can see. Someone stated they go all the way to the county line....

They were placed there for the benefit of IT--to light up her way to SLITHER BACK to Vero Beach, from whence she came.

Attachment Deleted Attachment DeletedHere are some pics of the SR60 S-bag Entrance Sign. This is a big improvement with minimal cost involved. One wonders, however, what happened to the plan adopted by SLohA to replace the sign? Regardless of your opinion to repair or replace--Owners expected a replacement of the sign, as promised by BOD. SLohA funds were expended for this purpose and then suddenly, without notice to Members, the project was dropped. What do you think of the rehabbed sign? What do you think of the manner in which this was handled by BOD?

I have an extremely low rating for how the Board handles our business. No transparency, dishonest in most cases as much as not following regulations as set forth by HOA Statutes or by following HOA attorney legal advice.

I notice a post on one of The SLohA Official Bulletin Boards under recent correspondence, a ex-board member was asking about the Rt.60 S-bag sign. The question was about what happen to the Board approved and allocated New Sign. It's like who approved, the face-lift on the old sign, when a brand New Sign SLR sign had been approved. My first thought, this question is 2yrs to late.....
