A very nice shout out but incomplete with regard to the willingness of people to volunteer. There are FACTS to support that people have attempted to volunteer but been locked out by those in control.
FACT: An email conversation thread among directors was accidentally sent to recipients discussing whether other directors wanted to permit a certain owner from being on a planning committee due to certain opinions held which disagreed with the Boards. I have this email copy but will not post it to protect the involved person from retaliation by board members.
As an aside, this stray email, which was never meant to escape the confines of the board members, evidenced what had long been suspected--that SLohA business was illegally being discussed in secret and decisions being made behind closed doors. This was verified--again-- an accidental admission by one of the directors during a recorded Board meeting--that business was indeed being conducted by email (and probably still is).
FACT: I--S u e--volunteered for the Redbook Committee when the Committee first came up over a year ago. I did so in writing. I did not get so much as a phone call or an acknowledgment.
FACT: I--S u e--volunteered for the Elections Committee a few years ago and indicated last year that I was willing to serve again. I received a phone call to verify my willingness but there was no follow up. I think I can say with good certainty that the Committee was brimming over with volunteers.
FACT: The editor/owner of the NewsHound--arguably the most ardent conservationist that S-bag has ever seen--volunteered to be on the Lake Committee. He actually attended one meeting and apparently disagreed on some point and was summarily dismissed in a Board meeting with NO ADVANCE NOTICE. This was done with him in attendance at the BOD meeting! The rudest public display of disrespect that I and a roomful of people have witnessed.
FACT: Not to overlook the most glaring example of BOD exclusion of people from service--the 5 people who stepped up as candidates to run for the board. These people were subjected to an unprecedented pummeling by the sitting board for 3 hours at what became known as the "BEAT the Candidates" forum. And in the audience watching this despicable treatment of owners who volunteered was...a representative from the Management Company.
The above are just the examples that I can PROVE. My guess is that for every example that can be proven, there are a handful that cannot. Is it any wonder that "people" have given up volunteering for anything these days except to walk around talking to others about how to get rid of these lawless and arrogant people in control?
So before the mindless clapping becomes a thundering roar drowning out all rational thought, perhaps the writers should pay a little bit of attention to history and the FACTS when making rash assumptions about "detractors and naysayers" not being a part of the solution.

Re: January 08, 2014 Meeting
We would like to express our gratitude for all your hard work and time to take on this thankless job of trying to get our Covenants in order and up to date.
We can only imagine how many hours you have spent researching and formulating the presentation that we witnessed yesterday. Mik and Jean along with M and the committee sitting at the front of the Clubhouse did a fantastic job in their handling of the meeting.
This problem has existed for many years, but never addressed. Too many people in our Resort sit back and let someone else do all the work. I am positive that none of them know how many hours you spend tending to “their" problems.
To all the naysayers and detractors, I say," be part of the solution, not part of the problem". Get involved, volunteer, get on the committee, and help with the workload. There is" NO Free Lunch".
To constantly criticize and complain and never offer ANY solution to what they are complaining about makes no sense to me. If as much energy, time and money went toward helping get to the bottom of the problems we face as is spent adding to them, then we could solve ALL of them.
To B and V S I say thank you for all your time and money trying to add to the enjoyment and value of our Resort. It is too bad that people can't see the forest for the trees.
If the owners who have gone before us hadn't had the foresight for the infrastructure and amenities that we enjoy today we would still be coming through the front gate in horse and buggies onto dirt roads, and using outhouses.
Again, thank you for your hard work
