Posted on CHUG; the reason for the slow internet and inability to use VOIP phone:
Slow internet speed and Voip Phones breaking up
I need to appologize for and explain why the internet speed is much slower than normal, and has caused our Voip phone calls to "break up".
Many have heard me "brag" about our super high speed internet feed. Well, our internet supplier has found a creative way to make my words be untue (temporarily). Last July I complained about a problem with our redundant backup circuits. Our internet supplier, without my knowledge, decided to fix this problem starting late December 2013. They took down our original high speed feed and decided to provide us with temporary service on a feed that they sized to handle the load we had from July to December 2013. I was not told about the pending change, and would have not allowed it until April 2014 if I had known their plan.
Anyway, as soon as the January 1 folks arrived the undersized temporary feed was way overloaded and the internet speed took a big hit. I have had two conference calls with the folks at CenturyLink this last week, a trouble ticket has been opened and a fix will be coming soon. Their final replacement feed will not be in until February, but the current problem is being worked on now and should be fixed long before that.
We ask that users refrain from downloading movies or TV shows until the fix is in place.
Again, I am very sorry for the inconvenience it has caused.
