Good news, in 2010 Bright House quoted the SLohA to install wireless internet here at S-bag. For the equipment and installation it was only $1.2 million. That certainly has to be better than the free installation KCNet has charged SLohA in providing internet after the first company suddenly pulled out.

Sorry, your facts are not quite accurate. K C charged owners for installation; one tier was standard and I believe it was $125 and the higher tier with better quality material was $150. K C charges all owners, via our operating expenses, for use of its signal for administrative and maintenance operations. There is nothing "free".
Also, you don't seem to acknowledge that commercial activity is prohibited on private and common property in SLR by Covenant. A covenant is a promise--a contract--that is relied on by owners, lenders and the public.
Is there a compelling reason you can offer to negate or offset the power and protection that Covenants provide to members of SLohA?
While it is "nice" that SLR has internet, there are other internet options available to owners. It is too bad that this plan was probably well-intended at the outset but badly implemented and..illegal.
Our governing documents are important to preventing degradation to the beauty and use of our property and maintaining the beautiful environment we all enjoy.

Anyone can go to Radio Shack by Wendy's (close to the WalMart) and get their choice of phone and Internet service. You pick the plan for you and then you pay for what you want via contract .
Nobody needs to subsidize anyone else's wants or needs . I cant understand the ''freeloader mentality" with thinking its just OK to get everyone to help you pay for your internet .
I provide my own wants and needs thru my retirement moneys . I got my retirement the old fashioned way , I EARNED IT .
If people cant afford the internet out of their own pockets then they need to understand none of us that pay our own way with our own money want to support those who just don't have enough disposable income to afford it .
I just cant wrap my head around anyone who has health care subsidized in their country and feels Americans have to subsidize their internet while they are in the USA .
The whole Internet proposal was presented with misdirection and absolute lies from the people pushing it . They got those who have it addicted to it and now they feel they cant live without it , I WONT SUPPORT YOUR ADDICTION . BUY YOUR OWN DOPE/ BOOZE OR INTERNET WITH YOUR OWN MONEY .
By forcing this internet and knowing that its Illegal the wanters are involving others in a criminal act . I wont be party to that .

Sorry, I didn't get my facts "not quite accurate". The quote from Bright House was only for the towers, etc. which would have been on common ground, similar to verizon's lines and connections, Duck Engerny's lines and poles, and Bright House's lines for their "basic service". Those seem to be commercial enterprises .. at least my bill looks like they are trying to make a profit. AND The 1.2M did not include installation to individual homes.

I installed my own internet for free . I brought my Aircard home from Radio Shack and Plugged it in (2 minutes) and I was online . Oh, first I had to take it out of the box , There was no "Dumbing Down" of my Computer to accept an unsecure FM signal needed (takes up to 2 hours for Kay c to mess w/your peasee and add his password/backdoor) . Then I had Dish Ntwerk installed and it was Free installation and I can DVR up to 6 movies at a time if I want . PLUS I got the HOPPER/SLING so I can sling to different TVs in my house or to my phone or iPad , FREE !
PLUS I got a written contract and FULL BARS and they NEVER tell me to not download movies !
Will all in SLR bring by a few dollars by every month and support my choice of providers ? Just kidding, I prefer to pay my own way for my things, and not support some weak and illegal internet perched on our common property like a vulture waiting for someone to die so it can eat up their house and lot due to non payment .

Your statements about providing for your own needs and wants seems so noble ... my American health insurance, my American real estate insurance, auto insurance, the roads I drive on, are all subsidized by others ... Yes, I pay for my own health insurance, but my expenses and the expenses of others is spread our over the costs of others, and so it is with everything ... Am I talking about a "socialized state" or a "communiist state"? No, it's just the reality of the way life is in this country. I pay higher prices for gasoline so that people up north can have heat during the winter. I pay for clothing, food, and on and on, sharing the cost for production, transportation, and sales with you and all others who shop and aren't living in the back woods raising my own food, cutting my own wood.
I take care of my home here so your home values are higher ... the SLohA has maintenance workers so our resort is a great looking place to live ... I pay our fees so all that can happen so everyone's home values are higher.
We live in a great resort, I'm proud to be a home owner here, I understand that people are looking for a place with great amenities. Does that mean we do things "illegally"? No, but it does mean that we all need to work together to keep SLR a great place to live and vacation. It seems some are not wanting to find common ground and work towards improving the attraction of others to live here.
Do I agree with everything the board decides to do? NO. Do I agree with everything Stmbug Ixx does? NO. But, then, again, my spouse and I don't agree on everything ... does that mean I sit back and nit pick everything or does it mean I try to find common ground ... instead of calling people names, making rude and/or degrading comments about them. It doesn't work in my marriage and it doesn't work here. Some one has to decide that all letters to the state, county, police, etc. aren't making this a better place, and isn't working.
Why do we have to have winners and losers? There's much that irritates me, but most of it I can live with (in my marriage and at SLR and in the world).

And your comparisons to the outside world for food-fuel and other items have ZERO bearing on what this internet is all about in SLR. You should do some research first and prove what you are talking about instead of listening to hucksters tell you what to think and then repeating it and fouling the minds of others .
I see you on here trying to do damage control for this Internet Extortion Fee and nothing else .

People who choose to live in an environment of predictable and lawful order, within a private government that obeys its own organizational documents, will not be attracted to the conditions that currently exist in SLR. As beautiful as it is on the outside, SLR is ravaged inside by decades of "government by convenience". SLohA has ignored its own bylaws and covenants for a very long time--and in some instances, it has recorded false documents.
This disrespect for our own law has nothing to do with broader socio-economic politics and is no longer an acceptable state of governance. Questions of lifestyle choices within a community are an appropriate area of negotiation--the due process of law is not.
Living in an unregulated homeowner association in Florida is problematic enough without adding a lawless and rogue board that conspires against the people who elected it to enrich themselves and other interests. The internet issue is a flashpoint on a very tall lightning rod planted very deeply below-ground. The lightning struck on Jan 7th when a reckless board voted to disrespect the process of budget ratification when it threw a hissy fit to ram a new assessment for internet service by tagging it to the budget. This is not permitted by covenant or bylaw. This irresponsible action demonstrated all that has run amok in the conduct of the legitimate business of managing common property.
Common ground must begin with the contract that everyone in here agreed to when they accepted a deed to their property. Everyone has the same contract. Common ground must be re-estabished and the contract between owners and SLohA respected and upheld by our elected representatives who represent ALL members--not a majority of owner-interests. The process of repair to our governing infrastructure will be a chaotic and painful journey but there is no other common ground among owners (except perhaps the love of S-bag).

Those seem to be commercial enterprises .. at least my bill looks like they are trying to make a profit. AND The 1.2M did not include installation to individual homes. You made your case; these agents providing infrastructure for internet providers are "commercial enterprises" and, last time I looked, our Covenants specifically prohibit all commercial activity on the property (except those activities necessary to maintenance and operation of the common properties). They (Verizon, BrightHouse etc) will make applications to place their towers and cables on lands which are properly zoned for the particulars of the enterprise and permitted by the authorities owning and controlling use of private property. They will not swoop in and plant themselves on someone else's property and then demand, through governmental mandate and other machinations, that the property owners purchase their service and that their service "runs with your land" by deed. I think that is in the domain of state "sovereignty" of taxing authority exercised by legitimate government--and neither SLohA nor K C have it. I find it curious that BrightHouse offered any kind of quote for such a theoretical and casual proposal, an effort which would normally take months following governmental clearances, engineering studies, letters of intent, site visits and what-not. It takes a monumental effort just to get hold of Customer Service to report a cable outage. Care to share your secret?

I am frankly quite sick of these lie-believing suckers who come on here and use everything else in the world to deflect this SLR internet issue when it's not got a damn thing to do w/any socio-political-economic ideologies being spewed here; it DOES however have to do w/a pack of lies told by a needy, greedy "businessman" who has planted his business here illegally. Go ahead and keep believing his crap--and your own; we will put any of his statements to the "truth" test and dispel any myths and point out--with facts, mind you, all his lies and fallacies.
I, too find it extremely impossible to believe that a quote of $1.2M was given by Brighthouse--given to whom? And how did they arrive at that quote when Bag Lady is correct,(she does her homework)since a quote like that requires governmental clearances, engineering studies in conjunction with site visits as well as letters of intent as well as other issues.

Mr. BS says he had a vision of what SLR could be like with his Internet and TV system . Great things come from an Idea or a Vision most of the time . I wonder why he also didn't envision doing things correct and by the rules of business from the start ? Mr. BS says that Contracts and Liability boiler plate agreements are a waste of time and money, this shows me he had a LACK OF VISION.
A neighbor of mine was trying to defend the Internet from BS and could only say what all the others were told and on every turn he couldn't defend . He told me that at the meeting he was told that "these big companies wont be able to afford to keep their satellites in operation some day" and that we would only be able to get TV from KayCeeNet when that happens.
OMG ! are you kidding me ? I then mentioned that Dish has 3 Satellites , DTV has only 1 and those major companies buy and pay to put the Satellites into space . There was silence.......
Then he (neighbor) says "well....IF we have a storm and those big companies lose their towers that we will only be able to have internet with KayCeeNet ." My reply was that if Verizons tower goes down so will these puny towers . And that the big Companies have the Manpower-Equipment and Warehouses full of everything they need to get up and running within a week or so and that all KayCeenet has is an old Ford Cherry Picker truck and a few guys. He will also have to order what he needs and wait for UPS or FedEx to ship it . PLUS.....there may be more damage than just the towers, individual homes may need new ''bricks'' to receive a signal as well.
Crickets......."Well we all paid for the swimming pool to be redone" yes I replied, and we paid for it to be done TWICE I said, then asked what the swimming pool had to do with a commercial privately owned business that was NOT an amenity ?
Again crickets.....I truly like and enjoy chatting with my neighbors like this, I respect their opinion and their choice and do not fault them personally for what they say. However I do have serious issue when my fellow neighbors are told untruths and lead to believe that the sky will soon fall and that the Internet Extortion Fee is the new age of SLR and if we don't get it now no matter what is wrong with it we are doomed .
Shame on the BOD to taking advantage of elderly folks and lying to them just to get into their purses and wallets . Shame on Mr.BS for not coming correct and presenting himself and his business in a manner consistent with tried and true business practices done legally by other companies .
And last but not least shame on the people that do not want to find the truth and only listen to what they hear . If you have internet do some research...THATS WHAT THE INTERNET IS FOR !!! not just playing cards online and forwarding jokes , the internet has the truth and anyone can find it with a little effort .

Myth buster guest has good commenting and observation skills of people--for his comments regarding truth he is 100% correct; after he or Bag Lady or anyone else loads up posts with FACTS aimed at those individuals, it's apparent they seem like they just don't get it. Notice how you can bring facts and truth to this forum and mix them with good old fashioned common sense and logic and some of these people still cannot grasp the concepts of what is being said, or they simply will not acknowledge the truth and facts for what they really are--TRUTH AND FACT!
When you've got someone here talking about gas prices and food, clothing--whatever, being relative to this internet issue, or another person says it's just like the swimming pool, then there's another guy over there who was told by owner of kaycee net that when the big company's (Verizon, Brighthouse, etc.) satellites fail, then his internet business is going to be the only game in town, you've got some really screwed up thinking people who have become too complacent to care and/or too lazy to think for themselves, but then I'm sure they will try to discount this statement as well due to the fact that it requires them to admit to themselves that somebody sees them for exactly who they are such as Myth Buster has done to these people and board members alike.
Before one can point a finger at another with blame or shame they must first point that finger at themselves.

I have been following this Internet proposal and I seem to have more questions than answers these days . My personal opinion is based on that what I hear and what I believe is true seem to be two different things .
Instead of listing all the inaccuracies that I have heard about the Internet proposal and possibly clouding what some readers may or may not want to believe I tried to remove my personal feelings and look at the whole thing from an outsiders perspective . I ended up having even more questions and could get no answers that made any sense from the very people that want the internet proposed by K c Net in SLR .
After reading all the print from Mr. S I cant make heads or tails of his direction , Mr. S seems to not have it together as a person wanting to provide a good product to people ie a service with a contract and a guarantee . Mr. S speaks of his failing health and that makes me wonder was this a ''feel sorry for me'' ploy ? Sympathy is not a good way to propose a binding agreement for one thing . Secondly and most important to me is the fact Mr. S and his wife have publicly stated that they are losing $ 15,000 (fifteen thousand) dollars a month on this business venture . This is very troubling and the fact that the math with the money doesn't add up .
The proposal if adopted wouldn't come close to the business ''breaking even'' and Mr. S stated that's all he wants . Again, I ask what business is in business to lose money ?
Another huge problem is Mr. S statement at the Proposal (internet) meeting where he states Contracts are a waste of time and money . I don't know about anyone else, but if you enter into a binding commitment and have nothing in writing you are setting yourself up for having absolutely no recourse if things go wrong .
I cant understand why our Board of Directors do not see this as a bad deal for our community and shouldn't even entertain the thought of doing business with any provider for any service with the attitude Mr. S has . Its just BAD BUSINESS ! Mr. S claims to have Subscribers outside of SLR, some 1500 maybe . This is also troubling, how will outside subscribers take it knowing that SLR subscribers will only pay $15 dollars a month for the same service they pay $ 50 dollars for ? I don't know about anyone else but my opinion on that kind of unfair business practice would cause me to cancel my service and go with a modern and up to date Internet Provider such as Sprint, Verizon, or any reputable company with set prices and a binding agreement that protects both company and user . Once outside subscribers start dropping their service who do you think will have to eat the loss ? Not Mr. S , the price will go up to SLR users to cover the losses and we will have no binding contract to protect us from mandatory increases to stop the cash flow loss .
Take a step back from what you think you want, think about how this one thing will cause irreparable damage to our community in the future if not already . Stop to think about what will be put on future SLR populations and ask is it right , is it worth it ? People seem so selfish these days, only caring about what they want and not a care about anyone else. Very upsetting to see the viciousness in some folks as they get on in years .
Thank you for your time if you read this and please VOTE NO on the internet Proposal / Budget options .

Cross-post from Traffic Enforcement and Signage: It is PROVEN hogwash. When BS came over to my house to troubleshoot my signal problem, he re-aimed my brick to receive a signal off DBAG's house antenna. (It had previously been set to the Bathouse but maybe that was before SLohA paid to have the big oak tree was defrocked to permit better transmission). Unless BS is illegally installing and capturing signals from private individuals' homes, this tells me that he had the right to reset the internet communication to DGAG's antenna because he OWNS it! Or, because there is a business agreement that gives him the right to use DBAG's antenna.

B.S. stated at his Special Meeting, that you can thank me for your peasee's high speed download and upload speeds using a Verizon Modem. I think at that point he realized he just let the cat out of the bag. B.S. may have a Verizon Wireless Signal Repeater on one of the towers located on common property in SLR. Which I think that SLohA owns said towers. The owner/residents do not know who owns the towers, because our BODs keep telling us, we do not have any connections with K-- Ntwerk. So if we indeed have Verizon 4G Wireless Repeaters on towers located within our Resort. I have a Question? It is normal for a Ntwk Carrier, like Verizon, to pay a royalty to the owner of a tower, they have placed a Hi-Speed Signal Repeater on. If this is true and Verizon has placed their equipment on towers inside of SLR, who is getting any Royalty $$$$'s. Is the Royalty divided between K---Ntwk & SLR? Did the owners of the towers, just let Verizon add equipment for free. Maybe it is a public service to the community? I am curious, can anyone answer these questions? Maybe I should ask Verizon about any arrangement they may or may not have inside SLR, with K----Ntwk. But Mr. S. did say; "You can thank me for the hi-speeds you are getting using Verizon Wireless on your peasee." :-)

Your observation adds to the smoke surrounding this fire! MANBOD, in one voice, has consistently put the wall up on getting ANY information about the agreements that have been made in furtherance of K C N's presence on common property! This has been repeated and insisted on by K L at a recent meeting. Oddly, MANBOD has not been as secretive about the fact that Owners pay for certain costs of K C N operations and bear the insurance costs and liability of having those towers tethered to our common areas. For that burden, owners have received no offsets and continue to pay K C N for internet services to Admin and Maintenance. Here are some photos of business equipment installed in our prime recreational area: Tennis Court Tower Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted Owners have been shut out of the K C N connection and only MANBOD is permitted to know anything about the operation of K C N on SLR property! BOD would have to be brain-dead to be unaware that this is a flagrant breach of covenant. But, BOD does it anyway and it is time to find out what is behind this and dismantle this operation from within our gates. BOD's refusal to respond to Owners' concerns over the last 4 years is why a lawsuit must be brought--the discovery process will reveal what has been done behind the backs of the owners for the last 4 years and then...let the chips fall!

TWO Covenants breached--"Commercial activity and No Nuisances" And, I'll believe it when I see it i.e. the "story" that "We can't do anything-waaaah wahhhh". The evidence points to the FCC allowing "personal networks for ham radio operators" to install towers on private property. Show me..don't tell me. I don't believe anything coming from MANBOD.
