Help Me Understand.... What Am I Missing... I just do not understand, we recently replaced many frozen gate-valves in SLR's water pipe system. So if we have a water leak on W Way, which is a 360 degree circle. Why in the world do we turn off the water supply to the whole community? I would think W Way could have been isolated, by turning off 1 or 2 gate-valves, in the roadway. If the maintenance dept. is not going to use these gate-values, to isolate water pipe repairs. Then we have wasted thousands of dollars, by replacing the old valves that were frozen open. If our maintenance dept. does not have the knowledge to isolate main water supply pipes, maybe place a call to the 20+ yr. maintenance person, who was terminated. He knows how to isolate the water supply on each street, I think he was the person, who would make suggestions to the foreman, on what to do. SLR's way to isolate water now is just shut down the well pump. There is a better way to handle these emergency water pipe break issues. :-( ;-( :-(

My question is : What determines when the water is safe and to cancel a "BOIL WATER ALERT" ?
Is there a test that is done throughout the park to know that any harmful bacteria is no longer present ? Is the "ALL SAFE" given just on speculation that enough water has circulated and that its just a guess that the water is now safe ?
Details, WE WANT DETAILS . We deserve to be in the loop and it seems the Manager is always very vague about the issue at hand but does a lot of talking but really says nothing .
Give me news I can use , come correct and be Professional . That is what you are paid to do , start earning your keep or be gone with you .

I will try to dig up a great article that was done for the NewsHound which was done specifically because was not properly advising residents about the action need for a Boil Water Advisory. is doing better now; at least people are being told how long to boil water (5 minutes). That might be a little on the lengthy side according to CDC for 1 (one) minute. Perhaps that time might be lengthened depending on the type of contaminate or the contaminate load. Sure can't hurt to boil longer except I lose track of time and end up burning my pan up. You can also disinfect with a bleach solution.
However, people are still not being told to flush ALL faucets for at least 3 minutes after the advisory is lifted. This is to allow any contaminated standing water to run through all the piping and for the pipes to be "cleansed" through contact with non-contaminated water.
In this last case, there was possible contamination (with an identified Sm all leak) that occurred before, so it would be a good idea to also dump the dog's water and ice cube trays filled earlier than the Advisory was called.
Very good question!
