1 Resosrt Wide Internet and Tuesday's Special Board Meeting.
02/23/2014. I purposely did not make any public announcements either verbal or published between the day that the SLR Elections Voting ballots were distributed and the day the election results were announced upon advice of counsel. Unfortunately, others did not practice the same discretion and continued misquoting, uttering and publishing what is in my opinion slanderous comments. We did collect daily updates of the various postings on the S-bag.boards.net Costa Rican website. I am still a week or more away from announcing what we are going to do with this data, but there are a few comments that are appropriate at this time.
While Ms. S u e Teagues's observation that "4 years * 15K/mo is nearly a million dollars" (really $720K S u e if you do the math again) was slightly wrong. The actual amount loaned to KCnetwork is many times that. The observation that nobody who had that kind of money would live in a place like S-bag is insulting to most Saddlebaggers and deserves an apology. Certainly, my father had such worth when he purchased here in 1982. As to me, that will come out in depositions, but my reason for being in S-bag is to be as close to my father as long as possible during his final years. As to the loans that have made to KCnetworks, they were more to fund the needs of our friends and neighbors to save them from acute internet withdrawal than to fund a business. After all, businesses make a profit. A Business would have had a tight binding contract with S-bag SLohA not give everything to the Resort and ask for nothing. Those who are obsessed with finding such records can look as long as they wish. They will find nothing, because nothing ever existed. Nothing was discussed, nothing was promissed except what we were going to give to the Resort. Every promiss we made has been kept and much much more.
To Mr Herbst, your technology advisor who told you it is very difficult to "steal" internet signals needs to think again. Just ask the people who got together and decided to order one account and share the router password between themselves how hard it was. That is why Lake Wales Wireless had 88 paying subscribers and 450+ attached homes. Kip once told me "you Saddlebaggers are a den of thieves" And I had no desire to be the new denmaster when I know no internet design could survive the number of packet retries that that type of sharing would produce.
To the people of S-bag to whom I made one condition when we agreed to fund the creation of the present internet system. This was, "You must create a society where it is socially unacceptable to share internet signals." Thank you, because even I was surprised at how quickly you complied. And, it had nothing to do with money, but was what was needed to make the technology work. I only know of four violations. One was when S u e Tg gave her router password to the lady across the street who had just gotten a new iPad. Afterward, this iPad was using 650+ times the internet capacity it needed while talking to S u e's router. We put in a new router and saved her from S u e's violation of our Terms of Use Agreement. And, gee S u e, I never said a word to you about it. After all what are friends for?
Several times I have told the story of Kn Lws, Bb Trmb, D Brnd, somebody else who I cant remember, and myself contacting all of the possible internet providers in early June of 2010. We only got one proposal for an amount we could not even consider ($1.3 million in cash plus 500 firm subscriptions of internet and TV ($85/month). Several times I have been publicly been called a liar when each of these gentlemen knows that exactly what I say happened did in fact happen. Oh, they have been called liars too.
While my wife and I would both like to get out of the KCnet internet supply to S-bag hobby, we are not going to abandon our friends, neighbors and customers. So, I proposed to the Board members and S-bag people that we go through the process again and see what has changed between 2010 and 2014. Were the process to happen, it would be as follows.
The voters approve a budget with Resort Wide high speed internet.
Florida law requires that all persons on Medicaid or who are legally blind be given the opportunity to opt out.
After #2 was completed the Board would have known what amount of money had been appropriated to cover the Resort's internet needs.
Then Management would have submitted Requests for Proposal to every company who could possibly meet the Resort's internet needs.
Once the results were tallied, we would know the truth about the alternatives rather having to resort to using published lies.
Now for the real reason I am posting this today.
The votes have been counted and the desires of the homeowners are reasonably obvious. But not clear enough in my opinion to be compelling. At the suggestion of the SLR Attorneys which have been posted on this website (after the quiet period was over) , the vote should be seen as a pole of the ownership. But the Board needs to proceed with one of the budgets and the consequences it generates.
This leaves Four and only Four possibilities:
Approve the "budget with internet" and submit it for a ratification vote, if it is approved go ahead with the process outlined above. As I have previously promissed, KCnetwork would be willing to respond to an RFQ, if it happens this year, at a price consistent with the terms of our earlier rough proposal.
Approve the "budget with internet" and submit it for a ratification vote, if it is not approved follow Florida law to proceed with funding the Resort for FY 2014.
Approve the "budget without Resort Wide internet" and submit it for a ratification vote, if it is approved go ahead with the business of funding the Resort for FY 2014.
Approve the "budget without Resort Wide internet" and submit it for a ratification vote, if it is not approved, follow Florida law to proceed with the funding of the Resort for FY 2014.
Each of these alternatives has potential problems.
It seems to me that option 3 is the least problematic.
The people who voted for high speed internet will probably feel cheated. But if you need someone to blame, blame me. I was the person who took the option to the Board too late to be properly processed during the 2013 budget planning process.
During 2014, that error does not need to be repeated. The odds that KCnetwork will be interested in quoting at that time are almost zero, but contact me when you have RFQ's ready to mail.
KCnetworks will continue providing internet services outside of S-bag and will continue supplying internet to existing friends, neighbors, and customers inside S-bag as long as they are desired.
I know that the Board Members are divided on what to do and I certainly do not want to be seen as advising them. But, I thought some of my observations might help relieve some of the pressure that has build up over this situation. I make the above observations for two reasons. 1) I believe they are true. and 2) I believe they provide the best opportunity for S-bag to go forward in a way that properly honors all of those who have gone before us.
I can only apologize to Board Members who have suffered the hatred of the radical fringe because of me. I never meant it to happen.
As soon as the final decisions have been made, we will announce when we will stop accepting new S-bag customers. My best guess is April 1, 2014 but there is more water that needs to flow under the bridge before that final decision can be made.
Many of you know that our internet supplier made a major error last fall and we were left with a temporary internet circuit slightly smaller than we needed to support the all of January to April telephone and internet capacity that we had last year. We have made many changes to our routers to improve effency to make the limited capacity go further. It was NOT that we had added too many customers, it WAS that our current temporary circuit is 1/40th of what it was a year ago. Our feed last year was vastly oversized, but a solution to that problem is coming soon to be connected to a tower outside of the Resort. A radio feed will be installed to my personal radio tower and will provide far more capacity than all of S-bag needs and ample capacity will continue to be available to share with our friends, neighbors, and customers as long as is needed.
The last thing I can do for S-bag that might be constructive is to do what is possible to help certain people learn that there are consequences to their actions when they violate the law.
Jm Ath, I suggest you amend your letter seeking funds. I think you will need at least 1000 times the $2,500 you are seeking.
