From Minutes of BOD Meeting Feb 19, 2014:
b] When the Polk County detectives visited NEITHER the resort, myself as Bingo Oversight Chairman, nor the Management Company received a fine. Suggestions by the detectives were made and followed. END OF STORY. That said, I'm happy to report Bingo is doing well. At the last Bingo Committee Meeting, the committee approved donations to be made to the following non-profit organizations: American Cancer Society - $2000; Lake Wales Lions Club -- $1,000; Lake Wales Circle of Friends - $1,000; Lake Wales Care Center - $1,000; and Lake Wales VFW Post - $1,000. For a total of $6,000 donated [which includes the $3,000 returned by SLR for the TV monitors, automatic door opener, and the security camera]. That leaves a TOTAL BALANCE [which includes the weekly payout float monies to be $2,282.76]. *also bingo has not made even one dollar in profit since the 24th of January, all monies collected and more have been paid out each week.
The BINGO statute was published, IN FULL, both on the previous Owner Forum back in 2011 and on THIS FORUM. It is posted on the internet and accessible with a two-word google search. There is no excuse for anyone to be ignorant of the law. Violations of the Bingo Gambling laws are serious and carry heavy penalties.
Backing up--this consequence has been developing for years and has a sad history, beginning with the original violations reported to Florida by B DBlt in 2009 when he suspected that bingo funds were being diverted by the then-custodian. It turned out that his suspicions were accurate and BINGO was subjected to a severe wrist-slapping.
When more serious violations became evident in 2011-2012, owners, concerned that another violation would shut Bingo down for good, went FIRST to the Manager--SECOND to the Management company and finally--and THIRD to the Bingo Director/Chairman. The response from all those people was to deny wrongdoing (Manager) deny wrongdoing (Management Company) and accuse the complainer "Do YOU want to responsible for shutting down Bingo?" (Bingo Director). There remained nowhere else to go but to the Attorney General. The AG then investigated the allegations and from that investigation came the consequences. As AK says.."End of Story"!
Hopefully, this IS the end of the story. It is amazing that SLR Bingo was not shut down for such a significant violation on the heels of the 2009 violations.
