On Saturday our Sewer Plant had a little accident , gallons and gallons of turd pudding spewed out of the containment tanks and went all over the ground .
Today BROOKERS has been in and out several times , it seems Maintenance and Management think its best to wait until we have an overflow before they do anything that might cost money .
And didn't Director DBAG say that with good maintenance the Plant should last another 40 years ? DB is a LIAR .

One usually catches a whiff of poop around where the board members live, and it gets stronger around the clubhouse on days when all board members meet.

Yes, Anita, and it's all over the place where they put lime and dirt down; then they plan on scraping up and dumping the contaminated dirt behind the big red & white NO DUMPING signs. Then, all that nasty POOP and related bacteria will go into our ground water and contaminate it.

You can call me anything you like but I would wish that you would learn how to comprehend what you read. I didn't say it was good for another 40 years, the Engineers said that. Now that you are smarter then the Engineers we should come and ask you to do the next study. The engineers that did the study a couple of years ago said something along these lines. The current plant you have now is probably good for another 40 years with the proper yearly maintenance and it may never have to be completely replaced all at one time. The engineers suggested that to achieve a goal with yearly maintenance we should put $125k in reserves for the next 40 years.

DB-at this moment, I am calling you "overly-sensitive' (perhaps with good reason). You are splitting hairs..everyone is aware of Larabee's report which is why people are concerned. No one would ever be gullible enough to accept a technical statment made by a non-professional. Put your Big Boy pants on!
So, in your opinion, is SLohA is not performing good maintenance on the sewer system? Who maintains the sewer system and is that regular or "when needed"? When the engineer said we need to put $125K into reserves yearly for "routine good maintenance" what kinds of actitivities does that money pay for? And what about contributions to the Reserves for REPLACEMENT. Does SLohA believe that the plant will NEVER need to be replaced if the recommended maintenance, costing $125K per year, is performed? And, if yes, where is that opinion documented??
This is serious. I have never heard of a sewer system blowing up and creating a massive hazmat. You seem to have a great interest in this sewer system. Why do YOU think this explosion happened? Is an investigation from an outside agency appropriate? How would the engineers, who said "all is well with routine maintenance" explain this?

While on another purpose, I happened to run across Maintenance isolating the sewage explosion. Someone very rudely shouted something like "Take a picture of THIS"--but on close inspection, "THIS" was so tiny that it would not show up in a photo! Attachment Deleted

Googled this. Explosions are infrequent and ALL are due to some kind of gas vapor buildup produced as a byproduct of sewage. There have been several gas explosions over the past decade and all of these were much worse, causing fire and injury. Usually these gas buildups escape via leaky pipe connections or pipes that are old and weakened in some way and are ignited by sparks from various sources.
One article says that if you smell obnoxious odors from your home or your wastewater treatment plant, gas is escaping and there is risk of explosion. I was reminded that there was a strong odor of gas last fall-so bad that I did not linger in the area.
Has this event been investigated? Anyone know?

I am in the area by the Sewer Plant several times a day and there is almost NEVER a time where you CANT smell the stench escaping from the plant .
I wonder if our brilliant bod has maybe considered spending mega bucks on a fire suppression system for a soon to come methane explosion instead of just correcting the problem ?
They do seem to put the cart before the horse, such as with the Illegal Internet .

Like a Member stated, the Water/Sewer Reserves are Under Funded!!! Placing $125,000 a yr. to That Reserve Fund is about 30% of amount of Money needed. We will start the New Year with a $200,000 plus sewer lateral repair. I do not think it will stop with just one Sewer Repair in 2014. Our Reserve Funds verses Big Spending Projects is A Joke. About 5 or 6 years back we had a BODs that understood the meaning of Frugal Spending.. That Group of Directors, would have never approved a $165,000 for a Pier, or waste $400,000 Plus on a New Annex Bldg.. Plus in the past, SLR's Maintenance Crew actually did most of the work preformed in SLR, Plus They COLLECTED THE TRASH 2X's A WEEK... Remember Lorenzo and the others, that were on the Pay-Roll. Now, That Crew Earned Their $$$$$$s.

Cross post from Traffic and Signs:
I am told by a reliable source that a report was made to EPA. Thank goodness there are folks who have a sense of community responsibility and awareness that the environment is fragile and precious and needs to be protected against humans who treat it carelessly.
