A man was observed in the SLohA office today asking the female behind the desk if he could see the ballots that had been turned in. The female went to the back and a man returned and unlocked the ballot box so the person could see the ballots that were there.
The person observing this volunteered to put his name to this report, but I thought it was not necessary for this person to subject themself to retaliation. This report validated long-standing suspicions that ballots were not, contrary to the statement on the Ballot insert, secure. The Ballot insert attempts to reassure Members with the statement: THE SECRECY OF YOUR BALLOT WILL BE SAFEGUARDED AT ALL TIMES.
This is ballot tampering. Ballots must be in the possession and control of the Election Committee at all times. I am not aware of any males on the Election Committee. Why would anyone think they had the authority to open the Ballot Box? Was this a board member? WHO or how many people have a key to the ballot box and WHO opened the Ballot Box and for what legitimate reason?
P.S. There ARE no legitimate reasons to open the Ballot Box until Election Day.

The paper that came with round 2 of the ballots shows that the Election Committee has a male Chairman by the name of Clf Jnsn who is a board member and is also the cousin of another board member D Brnd.
I cant understand why a new lock isn't purchased for each election and the keys or combination destroyed to prevent tampering. The lock would need to be removed with bolt cutters in front of the election committee members and this would keep things on the up and up.
There should be a big enough ballot return box to hold all the ballots until the time to open the box, verify the proxy cards and then begin the count.

C J ESPECIALLY should not have access to the Ballot Box or the Ballots. An Election Chairman's duty is only to supervise the tasks of the Election Committee. It does not matter if there is no election on a Special Ballot; the Election Chairman/Board Director is NOT to have any access to the Ballots per SLohA governing documents.

This Report is very disturbing, to say the least. This incident needs to be addressed. What would be the best way, maybe a signed letter to whom it may concern. Our Leaders must think the Ballot Box and Bingo are just a Game... Dick T.

A letter to the BOD would be appropriate; at the very least, this event should be documented in our Official Records. The letter should request the Board to conduct a thorough investigation of this and take immediate remedial measures to prevent further tampering---and report back to the Membership the outcome of the investigation and steps implemented to prevent future ballot tampering.
I will get back to the source of the information and assess their willingness to make a first-hand witness report and complaint to the Board.
