I personally do not have any faith in our BODs and others. In the last few years so many bizarre things have happen. And to this day it is still going on. The lies, deception, half-truths, behind closed doors private meetings. Vendors doing lousy work, non-supervised big spending projects. I could go on and on. I am simply a doubting Thomas. Why was this Resort Wide Internet proposal pushed so hard on 50+% of the members. The question "Why" keeps running on the tapes in my head. I do not have the answers. But my gut says, something is just not right.
I Think It Is Time For Members of SLR to give some Serious Thought to A Forensic Audit of all things SLohA. One would need to spend $8 to $10 thousand dollars for a in-depth Forensic Audit. This type of audit is completely different then SLR's Yearly Audit. I would personally Donate a Very Large Sum of $$$, to see this happen. A Forensic Audit would definitely give members some insight and it may possibility give SLR's Resort some Fresh Air. Please give this some thought.... Thanks, Jm

This is input from my brother; who worked for many years for a very large and influential Wash DC law firm before retiring and who served on a Board of Directors in the capacity of Treasurer for a 2000+ condo association in a DC suburb. Prior to that, he was employed by financial institutions in a managerial capacity--the point is--he has probably seen or heard about every underhanded trick in the World of Champions Financial Playbook for Dummies. He also follows this forum.
It is his opinion that there is very likely internal self-dealing going on in this corporation--and believes there are many yellow flags that are getting discolored from age and many new ones going up NOW. He thinks this brouhaha with the illegal ballot is screaming out a message>>>"Look closely at your financials!"---and that does not mean "hire an auditor to balance the books" and validate general accounting principles.
While he admits he knows nothing about FL HOA's--his hands-on experience as a Director/Treasurer for a large not-for profit condo association does afford some knowledge and insights into the ways that CID's (Community Interest Developments) can be deceived and cheated by those in control of money and the books.
He asked "Is there a system of checks and balances for control of money and books?"

8 to 10 thousand for a Forensic Audit sounds like a much better deal for the money, I'm all for it.

I say, give it sometime, the smoke will slowly leak out of the closet. The closet has cracks....

The residents of SLR do have the means to get this Forensic Audit done. I just hope it happens in the near future. The money it would cost to have this Audit, would be money well spent. If we have corruption in SLohA, it would be exposed, and the States Attorney would handle the Case. If the Audit does not find any wrong doing, then that question can be put to rest. And many in SLR would feel better about their Community. The cloud of suspicion that some have, would be removed. My own personnel gut feeling is something is wrong, with the daily operation of SLohA.
