The Tennis Club has had a disastrous season. Functionally, 2 of 3 courts were totally unuseable due to mushroom growth. In the past, Tennis Club members have "fixed" the spots where mushrooms emerged but IT put the kabosh on volunteer activity on the courts and stated the Maintenance would take care of it. So here is the outcome of that: Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted

Maybe they were looking at the large pile of dirt/rubble under the Oak Tree. That area should be surrounded by a silt fence, also that pile of rubble/dirt, next to the courts is in a Flood Zone I do believe. Polk County could issue SLohA a Citation if that is the Case. Who would one call to file a complaint about this issue? EPA

Today (9/24/2014) SLR employees are repairing the sprinkler heads around the Annex parking lot that the dump trucks ran over when hauling out the excavated tennis court surface.
This once again proves that the MANAGER (HA!) hasn't a clue as to what it means to plan/organize/follow through with any construction work or projects.
Why is this? Like I J. H. Grnt told M. e. l. to her face in my own back yard that she absolutely SUCKS as a manager and doesn't have a clue what it takes to do her job.
Also there is no Silt Fence installed around our drainage to keep sand and silt not only out of our drains but from going into the Lake. This is actually MANDATORY. Take note D Braundstain you claim to know everything about rules however you sir are a complete self serving idiot like I also told you to your face in my own back yard.
I hope other Owners understand that I am only pointing out how inept this MANBOD truly is and that they cost us all money through their ignorance.
Fixing the sprinkler heads instead of under cutting and capping them until construction is over means we will pay to fix them for a second time.
Par for the course as they say.

From the Sept 22, 2014 KK "Mamager's Report": Excavation has begun on the base for the new Tennis Courts. Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted Attachment DeletedThe construction site does not have a silt fence barrier, required by Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The construction site has several drains and retention areas adjacent to the construction site and should be evaluated for installation of silt barriers. Def: A silt fence is a temporary barrier of geotextile fabric (filter cloth) used to intercept sediment-laden runoff from sm all drainage areas. A silt fence can be used to promote sheet flow, to reduce runoff velocity, and to help retain transported sediment on the site, thus reducing erosion and enhancing water quality.FDEP's erosion control program is administered by FLORIDA STORMWATER EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL Inspectors. The project contractor is responsible for accurately assessing the construction site to determine the type of barrier required to prevent erosion and sedimentation runoff into drains and lake and installing the appropriate barrier.

Even that Pile of Dirt that has been under the OAK Tree all Summer long, should maybe have a Silt Fence surrounding it. That is in a Flood/Drainage area, I believe.

By the looks of the pile of dirt with the excavator sitting on top, they maybe digging for a Olympic Size Pool... More dirt to raise the Dog Run elevation ....
O-Yes, by the way, were is the old tennis court fence and poles being stored? Or did we give the fence to a Charity?

Update on the tennis courts: After digging down about a foot and removing the dirt, they brought in a tan-ish/orange sand the consistency of fine salt. It appears they will roll felt about 1/8th inch thick on top of the sand. For those in the know about these things, make your own conclusions.

There actually needs to be a better sub grade first. 6" of D1 (crushed rock & sand) then the Typar Geotextile water barrier and then compacted sand after. Then whatever type of surface can be poured.
My prediction is that these courts wont last 2 years and will show signs of working cracks and then we will pay to do it all over again.

What Happen To The Old Tennis Court's Fence and Post?

Probably need a Certified letter--request record of disposition/whereabouts of SLohA property. This Board isn't open and available to Members concerns. When and who made any decisions? This fence is owner property and was in very serviceable condition. Mamager will probably claim to have an expert opinion about "poor condition" and say it was "salvaged" but to whom and for how much? When was it proposed and discussed in a board meeting and a motion made, discussed and dealt with?
And, by the way, how much extra $$$ is SLohA spending on the relocation and adjustment of the communication tower adjacent to the tennis courts? What physical changes were needed to accommodate the new court construction and who paid for it? That should also be on the Records Request. The only way owners will get a version of the truth is to request it in writing.
Or a subpeona.
This is all starting to remind me of the Pool Fence Caper a couple years ago where the pool fence--a perfectly good pool fence--was removed shortly after everyone left the park for the season. Thereafter, a certain president gave a certain mamager "permission" to give the fence away to a certain Maintenance guy who gave/sold it to a maintenance employee. This was all done "inside" without any discussion, knowledge or permission of owners. When confronted, a certain mamager actively avoided the question.
The need for a "new" pool fence, by the way, was never discussed with owners in a meeting. Everything was done behind closed doors and out of sight of owners. The purloined pool fence was discovered "accidentally" and brought to the attention of MANBOD with a complete photo documentation of the site and comparative Google Maps photos. A police informational report was taken. MANBOD never answered a single letter about it in writing. Instead, the Mamager defamed the persons who discovered its whereabouts and CHUG sponsored the libel.
All documented and in the Official SLohA records. Could this be Round 2?

I fail to see how the Tennis Courts "became a much bigger project than anticipated." Professionals were called in to asses the removal/cut & fill, type of aggregate needed, compaction, top coat, fencing, and painted surface.
More manager side stepping again. Either come correct and proper or vacate the job you fail to understand how to do. SLR can do much much better and it has been noted.
