At its November 2014 business meeting, the BOD approved a proposed budget to be presented to the SLohA membership for ratification on the 2015 Ballot. The BOD approved an increase in Line F Miscellaneous of the Reserves from $5902 to $7601.
At the December 2014 Budget Meeting, the proposed Budget and Reserve Schedule was presented. In Line F of the Reserve Schedule, it was disclosed that the MISC funding was for 3 items: 1. the Front Entry Gate/Auxillary Admin Equipment, 2. Fencing and
3. Internet Towers

The requested increase was, at least partially attributed to the replacement of KCNet's Communications towers necessary for his private, for-profit business. These structures are currently in violation of Polk County Building and Zoning law and are not owned by SLohA.
The amount of funding allocated for this year to Mr. St aib's business equipment is $4000.
It is unknown how much SLohA member assessments have actually been spent on the installation, repair and replacement of this tower equipment in past years. Why? Because the Reserve Schedule Line F was not explained in prior years and owners have not demanded accountability from their board. When asked for complete information, they have been denied routine detailed financial reports. This internet tower item was briefly mentioned at this year's Budget Meeting. Oddly, no one questioned it.
So, the purpose of this post is to ask members to pay attention to where your money is going. You are now being asked to fund this private business on SLohA property contrary to SLohA Covenants and in violation of Polk County. It has been disclosed and members are no longer "innocent". If you check the YES on the item Budget Allocation to Reserves, it is a deliberate action to knowingly opening the door to accepting ALL that SLohA will be directed to pay for in the future with regard to these towers...additional towers...higher towers...the services that these towers enable to be delivered..damage or injury that these towers might cause...equipment-related service disruptions to offsite subscribers...and on and on.
Members have heretofore passively avoided the ominous and ugly presence of these towers and what that presence means in terms of the Directors' role in enabling that presence--contrary to SLohA law and municipal law.
In September 2014, Director Nttr motioned to pay for a permit for footers for FOUR internet towers and for engineer's drawings for the internet towers (She had the arrogance and audacity to blame complaints to the County for incurring this expense!)
Cost $3200
From? This was not stated in the motion where the funds were to be paid from.
In November, Treasurer Suthrd sponsored a motion to permit Polk County CERT to install an antenna in "the Memorial H all area". (C'mon people, get real. It's in the Tennis Court Complex!) Nunsee Guttirez, Polk County CERT coordinator with SLR resident Kn H all, said she knew nothing about any antenna and that they did not have need for static structures--only mobile antennas.
Cost: Unknown
Is the Board being truthful?
Again in December, Director Brnd sponsored a motion to use owner money to strengthen the guy wires anchoring the towers secondary to the engineer drawings
Cost $5068
From the Grounds line of the Operating Budget
Voting to fund this Increase in assessments for the purposes of maintaining non-SLohA-owned equipment opens Pandora's Box. It will make future efforts to remove this private enterprise and equipment from our property much more costly and difficult.
