“ Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference" ..Robber Frost
Good News! I was outdoors pressure washing the house and a car slowed up and stopped. I didn't recognize the car or driver and thought maybe it was someone stopping to ask about my House For Sale and prepared to don my real estate sales hat.
A man gets out and says "S u e, I'm leery listerine" and extended his hand to me. I was gobsmacked! I shook his hand and told him that I was pleased to meet him. I recognized his courage in approaching me not knowing what to expect. I acknowledged how communications can become snarky when people don't know each other and how easy it is to assume "us-them" positions and apologized for my part in contributing to that.
leery L said he decided to come over to say Hello after reading my post this morning that "I agreed with one thing leery listerine said (and perhaps two)." leery actually took it upon himself to find that ONE thing we agreed on and begin a conversation. We discussed that One thing and found that there was much to agree on. leery embodies the quote above i.e. he took "the road less travelled..and that makes all the difference".
I admired his gesture of goodwill and asked leery's permission to publicly blog about it. That is the purpose of this post --to recognize that for the cycle of animosity and misunderstanding to stop, one must have courage to choose the lesser travelled road. Though I believe I am "woman enough" to extend my hand to begin a dialog...leery was "man enough" to actually do it!
