After reading the manger's rept. from 9/2/13, I see that they have no handicap sidewalk access from the handicap parking to the new annex, and they--the bods, will not address it until after the final inspection of the new annex, seems to me like this would be too late, shouldn't handicap access be put in when the parking lot is being done?
Once again, they've failed to plan, and cannot say they didn't know about the numerous handicapped people living in SLR that need to have proper handicap access from the parking lot into the buildings.
It's been apparent that the person in charge of updates to the annex has been listed as Dxx Bxxxxx at bod meetings, and the manager deferred this problem of the lack of handicap access to the annex to the board.
Why would this important egress for the handicapped appear to be intentionally left out?

I would say, the lack of common sense and or $$$. We have a very narrow sidewalk leading to the front entrance of D new bldg.
I also do not see any parking lot lights. Maybe the lights are on back order.
Just my 2 cents, but a lot of Landscaping for such a Sm all area. Also maybe planted to close together and to close to the Bldg. I like Keep It Simple with Can't Kill Plants. Over-Kill!
Remember, It Always Has To Be Done 2/3 Times To Get Right.
Now on a positive note, the parking lot paving job, matches most the other paving jobs in the Community.

It took a fatality before BOD was motivated to consider lighting for the Clubhouse parking lot. Then, incredibly, BOD still wanted to keep lighting subdued and minimal to maintain some esthetic standard rather than to protect owners and the public groping around a dark parking lot. Now, owners can at least grope around on sidewalks.
Fact Flash for our wise leaders: after age 60, folks need 30% MORE light to see than they did in their 20's.
Incredibly, months later, BOD implemented the balloted pool lighting question and ordered mega-lumen pool floodlights that would illuminate an airport runway and half of Silver Doctor.
Oh and let's not forget the line up of 5 carriage lights along the front porch of the Admin Building that is closed at night to all but the Security Force.
Does it come as a surprise that plans for handicap access and parking lot lighting has been neglected for the Annex/Memorial Bldg?
Re: Landscaping. I think there will come a day when all this excess fussy landscaping has to be removed to establish budget cost controls. The abundance of border and specimen plantings, while attractive, will raise our landscaping maintenance costs to unacceptable levels due to the time-consuming detailing tasks of weed-whacking, watering, grooming, pruning, mulching, fertilization, plant replacement. Availability and cost of water for irrigation will skyrocket at some point in the future.
We need to have an intelligent vision for the future (Long Range Planning Committee?) and think about xeriscaping rather than continue to establish high maintenance gardening on the property. It is attractive--no doubt about that--but how high will landscaping maintenance costs go before owners realize that dollars need to be apportioned more reasonably?
