This is probably a pipe dream but, with so many Saddlebaggers already up north, it sure would be nice if someone could "Skype" the meeting so that more of us would be able to participate

Re skyping: I will call and see if the hearing is streamed; I do believe they televise all proceedings. I will also ask about skyping

S u e, I wasn't talking about the Public Hearing. I was talking about Skyping the neighborhood meeting at 66SS. In order for that to happen, Gngr & Lra would have to have a Skype account.

Questions were formulated and in the true spirit of cooperation and seeking understanding, I Lra Tmyk hand delivered those questions to the President of our Board, D Brnd today 5/24/15 for his presentation on Monday after kk. We will still be hosting a non - biased open discussion at our home Wednesday, May 27th @ 4:00 pm. All are invited including all available Board members. Than you. Working together for the best interest of all Saddlebaggers.

Dbag was quick to declare that this Q & A meeting had been "in the planning for weeks" and mentioned something about Stmbug Ixx moving their office (Huh--that was in mid April before the Hearing notices were posted!) and there being a holiday and I guess we were supposed to think that those things were responsible for the last-minute meeting notice. I say "Dbag, regardless of what motivated you to call a last minute meeting, 'Its about time' the board started a two-way civil conversation with the people they serve!" Mr. D was generous with his appreciation about having this group of questions provided prior to the meeting in order to better prepare. All that advance planning resulted in two other directors in attendance and one neither of them was introduced or acknowledged. Chap did not bother to attend; no explanation offered. It was another Bb St aib Production... The most active participant was Dik Dane chasing down questioners with the microphone!
D Brnd was also careful to explain that "everything that happened in the past was a past board and none of the current directors was responsible". I guess that was intended as a disclaimer of sorts but most people are smart enough to know that "to continue past unlawful actions in the present is consent".
My reservations are the same as always on this particular internet issue; i.e. the board continues to hide behind KCNet and avoid "going on record". They happened at the pre-mediation, the mediation and the Big Internet Proposal of 2014. Bb St aib did about 90% of the talking and strays into "off topic" areas frequently. Many people, obviously weary of that same ole history and "I'm such a good citizen" line of defense, got up and left the meeting early. Also, certain persons want to blame "messengers" for SLohA incurring costs. More on that later.
It is a start, however, and an improvement from the past recent history of shutting down Workshops, selectively reading correspondence written to the board, increasingly meager financial reports (they're almost gone!) and adjourning business meetings and getting up and leaving while owners make comments.
Interestingly, before the Q & A began, a Member announced an intention to form a new club; a discussion group of owners to share information and concerns about things in the park. Even more interestingly, DBag offered to conduct weekly post-KK open discussions with members and board. Trending toward more inclusive participation--a positive statement of intent. (The President also said at the April board meeting that they planned to post check registers on CHUG in the future, remember?)

A pleasant and interesting discussion was hosted this afternoon by 66SS. Many snacks were available of the yummiest variety, including those tiny little hot dogs wrapped in biscuits. Thank you to Gngr and Lra for opening their beautiful home for this meeting and providing snacks for all! People brought their own beverage. As anticipated, the discussion was lively and often off-topic. It was reported that "at least" 12 letters have been mailed to the Land Commission opposing the change in Land Use. The main problem identified by the board's action was liability to owners. It was noted that, in the past, when complaints were directed to the insurance agent, Edward Lamb, they were not forwarded to Tower Hill. It was also noted that Tower Hill used to do extensive inspections, lasting days, in the past. They do not do this anymore and there is concern that they do not know the extent of the involvement in this business risk on the S-bag premises. A letter had already been drafted to send to the Board "demanding" that they cease and desist using Owners' money to pay for KCNetworks business expenses and to revoke the application to the Polk County Land Development Dept. and it was read aloud for comment. Attendees learned the comments on June 3 would be limited to 3 minutes and that comments should be directed at claims made on the application and the impact on the character of S-bag--not the problems with our Board or Covenant violations. The rapid change in technology was addressed which has caused fixed land-based fiberoptic cable transmission to become "old" and replaced by mobile wireless. It was felt that the Staff Review did not fully appreciate that these towers were "yesterday" and they did not fully recognize that towers were no longer "state of the art" and it was not appropriate to consume leisure and recreation property in S-bag to support an outmoded technology that would disappear in a few years. Someone will be speaking and objecting to that point. Discussion of the permitting phase was discussed but that is a future concern following the disposition of the proposed land use change and it was felt we should concentrate on land use issues. There was much discussion of the historical factors that led to this situation and lack of owner interest/involvement in SLohA business affairs was seen as key in permitting the "takeover" of our common property by the Board/KCNetwork. The proposed Paul Harvey Owner Discussion Club was seen as a good start to educating people about S-bag business. The Staff Review, received hours before the meeting, was read and discussed. It was apparent from the findings on this review that there were very few reasons for the Commission to deny the application. However, impact on the "human environment" is an important element of review, and this can only be discovered through letters and comments at the public hearing. It is critically important to comment on that AND object to tower proliferation i.e. OBJECT to continued heightening of existing towers and especially OBJECT to the devastation of our group activity area, beach, lakeview and fishing dock for a tower. It was clarified that, due to placement within feet of the fire hydrant that the tower was proposed to be approximately to the rear of the bathhouse and 73 BK. Appended to this post is the first 5 pages of the Staff Review; the other groups of 5 will follow in subsequent posts. I can not post what I am thinking now. So I will share these remarks with you. But, before everyone gets upset over Bobs & SLohA Towers. Remember Bb and our BODs allowed this Internet Business called KCNetwork, for the good of our community. Our BODs always does what is best for all of Saddlebaggers. Like K.L. has stated, how would we survive without communication outside of SLR. Now it seems this New Corporate Communications Operation, has stated it wants to share this WiFi service, firsts through out Polk County, then all over the state of Florida, and eventually Nation Wide. Bb has stated this on his Current Issues in the Chug Site. This is Bb's Dream, and SLohA is going to help, by supporting a 100 ft. Tower at the Beach Area, and extending the height on other Towers on our Common Property. And let us not forget K.L. statement about we were being nice by putting the mandatory Internet Service on the Ballot 2 times. The Board could have just made the decision for mandatory Internet Service on our own, like it or not. Well you can count on mandatory Resort Wide Internet coming to your living room in the near future, if Polk County Planning Division approves this land use request. 16 RC
