"REPLACEMENT OF MARQUEE"
The Technology Committee has been doing some research on a replacement sign for the Marquee near the post office. We feel we could install an LED sign that would meet the needs of SLR for around $7,000.00. What we would like to do is get pledges for dona- tions from the different clubs in S-bag. If your club is interested in donating to this pro- ject, please forward the information to the Board.
D Brnd Technology Committee 93 S-bag Trl. 863-696-7904 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We need a New Marquee Sign, like we need a hole in our head !
Let us start "containing the cost" in SLohA, so we can try to reduce SLohA's Yearly Budget.
Now That Would Be a Novel Change ! Containing Cost, Like The Board Did Back in 2008 & 2009......

Unsure which sign this is;
Is it the unreadable, behind hi-glare glass where corporate documents are pinned and no one reads because it is directly in the path of the mailboxes?
Or is it the one with all the For Sale/For Rent notices by owners that was just purchased a year ago?
Or is it the white one near the Trail with little letters that slide into a track where occasional announcements are made about upcoming activities ?
Why isn't the Technology Committee setting up ELECTRONIC BALLOTING this season while people are in the park (it needs email addresses and consents)? Why is spending $7000 to replace a functioning sign more important than having a fast and efficient way to conduct legitimate elections? Will the clubs also pay for installation, bulbs, maintenance and repair? What happens when the lightning knocks out the electronics in the sign as it has so often with the gate? Will the Clubs pay for the computer software needed to operate and train staff to change messages? How about electrical usage?
Why are priorities so screwed up in S-bag?

I do believe is it the white one near the Trail with little black letters that slide into a track where occasional announcements are made about upcoming activities ?
The Board had talked about this when Kn L. was President, if my memory is correct. They wanted to replace the sign, because it was to time consuming to change the messages by hand during the winter months, when the park is full.
In my opinion, the black & white sign needs to be near the front gate, for all to read. Chap(manager) could be in charge of displaying the messages.
To confirm my believe dial: 863- 696-7904 ask to speak with D B. I am sure he would provide the rest of the story.

If there was research done then why cant an accurate price be nailed down? 7000 is to much money for something that really only gets noticed a few months of the year and will be subject to harsh rain and electrical storms all summer long. About or around 7000? that sounds way to iffy to me and way too fancy for an old trailer court that has gotten by just fine with the old sign that needs no software or memory boards replaced on a regular basis. Example, look at how much down time the fountain has and that is just a simple pump that isn't even on in the summer months. Now factor in software, circuit boards, phone modem (blu-tooth device) and the typical lack of proper maintenance we are accustomed to in SLR and we will be looking at another increase in fees to keep replacing the darned thing. Plus the fact that DB wants is should be more than enough reason for everyone to NOT want it. Its a bad idea from the git-go.

Ridiculous. There is a park full of volunteers to change sign letters and there is also Chap. He obviously needs things to do since he is only here 4 days/week and does not keep up with maintenance beyond the Trail/Silversides intersection.
Your observations about the harsh conditions that the sign would be subjected to most of the year, necessitating repairs and replacements to sensitive electronic components is valid. The park is only full for a few months; seems to me that Chap or staff could take care of the little extra signage task during the snowbird season without subjecting people to another ugly flashing neon eyesore like the one at Donald's.
Neon flashing signs don't make sense in this community and are not complimentary to the surroundings. S-bag is a park-like, rustic environment-or- it was supposed to be before KCNet and DBag confiscated it by building internet towers on our grounds. The fact that Kn Lws now D Brnd (and their buddy-buddy association with KCNET ) want an electronic sign is the best reason to say no. Donation is the smallest part of such a project and is what the Lws/Brnd hung their hats on insofar as the "gift" of all the towers--they were donated! And now look how much of owner money is being spent on KCNET business! The security cameras were "donated". Note how useful they have been to deter theft and how much money was put into purchasing separate fiberoptic bandwidth, new software, computer monitors, wiring installation etc. Is this yet another KCNET-inspired amenity requiring SLohA to lease more fiberoptic bandwidth, sign proliferation to other locations, self-monitoring alarms that alert staff to a burned out bulb or malfunctioning circuit, electronic readouts on AppleWatches purchased for Board and Staff and never-ending technical updates to computer software that only KCNET can configure?
Clubs-please do not buy into this idiotic idea by donating your hard-earned revenue. All of us will end up paying for it many times over in the end.

If this marquis is put in and does get up & running, it probably won't be operational for very long--(kinda like the fountain, lift station pumps, etc., etc.) due to all the possible malfunctions already discussed that could take place--this sign is just a bad idea, not at all cost effective, and, it's bad for business--all the way around.
If it's up to the clubs to kick up funding for it, then they should just say: "NO". The negative drawbacks of this type sign should be noted and taken into account, and the whole idea scrapped--as well it should.
